Gents,

Does anyone know what the minimum period of service (years) is for a Pilot in the Australian Air Force including a degree from the ADFA?

thanks,

The Return of Service Obligation (ROSO) is 10 years for direct entry and 14 years through ADFA if memory serves me correct. Give them a call on 13 19 01 to be sure though.

Thumbs up

Try this:

Fixed Period Of Service
You will be appointed for an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) of 11.5 years. Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service. You may tender your resignation at any time provided you do not have an outstanding Initial Minimum Period of Service obligation and provide a minimum of three months notice.
Note that this is for direct entry pilot and includes your initial training. Given that this takes about 18 months (67 weeks according to the web site) then you can see that the 10 years ROSO is pretty spot on.

More advice can be found here.

Of course, now that I read your question properly and see that you were after the degree stream through ADFA, add three years for the degree.

Fixed Period Of Service
You will be appointed for an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) of 14.5 years (for those undertaking the Bachelor of Technology (Aviation) degree stream, the IMPS is 13.5 years) . Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service. You may tender your resignation at any time provided you do not have an outstanding Initial Minimum Period of Service obligation and provide a minimum of three months notice.

Defence Academy Entry Officers become liable to an IMPS from the graduation day of their second year of studies. This means that they may leave the Academy at any time up to the end of second year, without any obligation.
The second para available from here and then follow the links to 'officer entry', 'defence academy', 'pilot' and you'll have all the info you need.

Good luck.

You should note that the ROSO for a degree and a ROSO for Pilots Course are served concurrently not consecutively. ie You'll end up with 10 Years ROSO from when you graduate from Pilots Course. Should you fail Pilots Course you most likely will still have to serve the appropriate ROSO for your free degree at ADFA. Hope that helps
