The three most useless things in a C172 (or any other flying machine) were always considered to be fuel in the bowser & runway behind you at the airport from which you just departed and altitude above you en route to the destination.

Along the same theme. The 4 most usless things in aviation:
1. Runway behind you
2. Sky above you
3. AIr in your fuel tanks
4 Hours in a navigators logbook
F16 pilot has engine trouble in his single engione fighter and declares an emergency with ATC, ATC reply rodger XXX you are no.2 behind a b52 on 15 mile final with an engine out. F16 pilot replies, oh no the dredded 7 engine approach!!!
