Qantas Questions
Hello,
Can any of you Qantas people able to give us some info on the recent recruiting in Qantas.
I am interested in particularly about what type of candidates have been successful in getting through.
Do you know what sort of age versus hours have been getting through.
Eg Low hours - younger pilots, low hours - older pilots,
high hours - older pilots.
I ask as I fall into the over 30 with low hours, under 1000, though do meet QF's min. hours.

If you meet the minimum criteria, then you have just as much chance as anyone else.

Don't think that is quite true. As posted on previous threads by myself and a few other posters, if you are in your 30s with lowish hours (<3000) you often get 'application not competitive - thanks for coming' letters.

I definitely hope that QF Recruitment is not putting the 30 sum things in the “to old to employ” basket. I have planned to be 29-30 when i break my first 1000hrs.
I find it difficult to understand ROI calculation of getting 35 years service vs 30 years out of a pilot.
Hah we will all be replaced by robots made of shiny gold metal by then surely. hmm:

I don't think it should be a discriminator either, but I suppose if they have 10 people to recruit and 500 people are under 30 with 2000 hours and the other 500 are over 30 with 2000 hours then they would go for the asset (the candidate) which can give them more longer term.
It would be a bloody shame for the older airline pilot wannabees to go outback for a few years only to find that they amount to a letter with a comment like "not competitive enough".....not even a look in into testing - it would be upsetting me-thinks - then what!?

I was flying the other day with a bloke who's well over 30 and didn't even start until in his 30's [2nd career] and recently with another bloke who'd been totally rejected 3 times.

No use in going on. Bloody shame.
One day we might be lucky enough to see the day when there is more than one airline out there to work for.

It is worth pointing out that one may be deemed "not competitive enough" for a lot of reasons other than age.
There is no way proving or disproving this, but I reckon there would probably be a similiar proportion of applicants knocked back for Stage 1 testing in the under 30s and over 30s groups.
Of course Qantas will be reluctant to tell you why you are deemed "not competitive enough", fearing all sorts of discrimination issues, but then again the employment process is by its very nature discriminatory, as they attempt to discriminate between those they want and those they don't want to employ.
All you can do is stop talking about it and have a go, there is no other way to find out.
No amount of discussion on Pprune or any where will provide an answer. There is more disinformation out there than can be a good thing, mostly generated by those bitter at missing out or too frightened of failure to put themselves up for selection.
If it is what you really want, then get your application in and stop mucking around - at least you'll know where you stand(eventually).
