OK Im a bit thick

Aviation is a world renowned for jargon....and just to qualify this question....I hold a NZ CPL..and a JAA ATPL...and Im flying for a pretty well renowned corporate company, yet chatting via email to a couple of Aussie Chief Pilots...the line RPT operations has come up. What the F"ŁK does RPT mean???...I was thinking repeat..but that was to easy..I dunno....help!..its drivin me nuts.

Dontcha just love aviation?

Cheers

H

Regular Public Transport.

A throwback to the 1960's, 50's?, 40's? or somewhere thereabouts for airline operations operating on regularly scheduled routes and times.

I guess it could also stand for:

Reticent Pilot Terminology.

Ny Favorite

The best one happend to me receintly in the USA:

While taxing to the holding point.

Controller: "November Blah Blah Position Hold"

Me "Holding"

So I stop....

Controller: "November Blah Blah I said Position Hold"

Me " Yep Holding"....

Make a long story short... I discovered "position Hold" means "Line Up on the runway and Wait".

Go Figure.

123 I hear you! I am in the States at the moment doing training. I've flown in many parts of the world, including Africa, and I've never had such a hard time figuring out whats going on on the radio!

So much for ICAO standard radio phraseology!

Devil

Geez I'm glad it was a Mod saying that!
Can't help wondering if that was how we ended up with that Nearly American System...

Heres Another

But wait there's more...

When first calling Ground or Delivery frequency and asking for your clearance [in The USA].

The controller would say:

"Clearance on request"

Dumb me would then say

"Yep... request clearance"

Long story short again...

Clearance on request means that they have requested your clearance for you and they will call you back when they receive it.

McRippy, Do you wear a uniform during your everyday employment in the west?.
If you do, and you are who I think you are, you already have one of them jobs.

Had another interesting experience...on Sunday..(positioning a company machine back to base from an eastern UK airfield after a foggy afternoon the previous day)

It went something like...

"abc..taxi via charlie..and backtrack for 23"
"ahh tower...request 05"
"negative abc....the wind is favouring 23"
"ahh tower..I dont know what colour the sky is on your planet...but 05 is favoured"
Slight pause.................
"abc...backtrack for 05...while I go and find my reading glasses"

dontcha just love sunday mornings?
