G'day,

A lot of the posts on here are by current and former students, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt. Of course some bias will come into it, and always happens whenever someone asks about a certain flying school. People out there in the industry will always have bad and good experiences with trainees of various organisations.

However, here are some FACTS about UNSW:

(1) It is one of only two (although I stand to be corrected) universities in Australia that operates it's own aircraft, under it's own AOC, utilising it's own instructors. The standardisation that results has to be worth something (IMHO).

(2) It is the only one of Australia's "Group of Eight" Universities (arguably those with the best reputation, especially on the international stage) which runs an Aviation course.

(3) Yes, BCD, a non-instructing member of staff did have a wheels up, but then again, which organisation hasn't suffered a similar fate over the years.

(4) Many organisations will be judged on how well their students secure work upon completion. All I will say on this is that those UNSW graduates who have worked hard have succeeded (which stands true no matter where you trained) and the graduate numbers in companies such as Qantas and Virgin Blue are continually on the rise. Those who have expected to walk straight into the RHS of a 747 (or the LHS of a 210 even!) on completion of their course have more often than not found themselves in the RHS of a Holden Commodore delivering pizzas. As I said, this holds true regardless of the organisation.

The debate over the viability of uni degrees in the avation industry will always be debated and I won't go into length on it again. There is an excellent search function for those who want to do some further reading.

Perhaps more worthwhile than ex-students recommending the course is asking those who do the hiring and firing.

Cheers,
TL

G'day TL,

can you see if you can manage to get common sense 101 added as a course subject? Also, if you could teach 'em that it's bad etiquette to do a 180 in front of an open hangar and blow dirt and crap into it after the CP has just cleaned it out.....twice!

As I am currently completeing an aviation degree myself I can say that it has definately made me a better pilot , in both the flying and theoretical knowledge parts rather than me coming straight out of school as a 17 yr old and getting a CPL through a local flying school. I believe I will also be more mature (and hopefully therefore more employable) at the end of the course

Whether or not a degree helps with getting a job is still out to debate though.

I never said a degree is bad. Would you guys just chill out?

drshmoo, did I really break a record?!?

I'd just like to say I'm 'trying' to help but it looks like I'm not a great job. I won't post anymore crap. Seriously though, in some of my posts. I really do know what I'm talking about! Believe me

takeonme, that was over the limit. Students aren't dumb. They can 'learn' if you understand what that means. What I post is what I've LEARNT mate. You should seriously look at your post compared to the others. Sure they've been saying negative things about me but not the way like you've said it. I'm sure most of you will oppose to my comment to what I've said to takeonme

Seriously, is this because I've been posting a lot that's why all of you are 'ganging' up to bag me out and get me to leave? Like I said before, I seriously don't think that all of my posts are stupid ok?

To all mods with respect, if you think I'm trying to tally up my 'number of posts' and mostly important posting crap then feel free to ban me. I'd accept it with no objections. I'm sorry but from my point of view, I don't think I am posting crap. I don't know what it's like from your point of views, I guess it's very different. That's why I'd accept the ban if necessary.

What everyone is saying is that you should just back off a tad and dont talk about stuff you dont really know about, like you are some authority of the subject, when really you know little outside what is on PPRuNe.

We are not saying you are dumb, you just lack any credentials to back up your statements (being still in high school perhaps!)

I'm not exactly a veteran myself (hence hardly any posts) but I'll say something if I have experience in the matter.

takeonme, sorry I took it a bit too serious.

disco_air and the others who posted in this thread regarding me. I have thought for a while and decided that you guys are right. Sorry for being a smarta*s before to all and giving advice to others when I have no experience with it at all.

Please excuse my stupid posts and forgive me. I have learnt my lesson and hope you can give me one more chance to stay and learn here on PPRuNe.

disco_air is right, I will not post unless I have experience in the matter. Thanks to all for such a valuable lesson. Questions is what I should be really posting, not advice.

I'm sorry
