Are Flight instructors payed like s*it??

There are exceptions but having been around the Auckland scene where you seem to be from I can say you answered the question yourself - Yes.
Funny really as it appears the more financially well off places there seem to pay the least of anywhere

Not just instructors, but all of GA and most of the F/O's in the regionals too.

Not all instructors are paid s*** you just need to find the right operator, if you are lucky you might even find one that pays above the award. Yes this is true and in OZ and on the east coast.

i worked 25 hours a week while doing my training for a cpl and my instructor earned less than i did and he was pulling 40+ hours a week!!!

Can someone tell me why helicopter instructors/pilots are paid so much more than us fixed wing guys for doing exactly the same thing?

Damn right,
I hear Bayflight cats get a mere $18000, while AFS instructors start on a piss ant $10 per flying hour and go up to another piss ant $20 per flying Hr tops. B cats no more! F#cking hyway robbery.
