Radio calls during formation flying.

What sort of radio call do you make when you are 'breaking off' from a formation?
How does it go?

NoseGear, you have made a serious error. It must be, "Alpha Bravo Charlie".....it's not you.....it's me......etc. etc......

.....or.....

Formation, this is Alpha Bravo Charlie......like a Jewish foreskin.....I must be off.......

P.S. lineboy_nz, sorry mate. I (like the others) just couldn't resist. I (obviously) can't help you with this one. I hope you get your answer.

If you are talking about a formation break then the leader in our group calls 3, 2, 1, BREAK and off we go. Sometime it's just BREAK, depends who is leading.

If you are talking about a break due to a problem then we say #XX breaking L/R due to xxx.

Generally speaking, if you are all in tune then there should be no calls except the break one.

Hope this helps!

Breaking off

If it's an emergency, you probably won't have time to say much - just pull up and/or out in low wings, or down and/or out in high wings. So you can see clear air. Then speak.

If it's part of a planned formation breakup, you need to be in echelon R or L, then the leader usually breaks L or R as determined by the echelon direction, followed by the rest @ 1,2,3 second intervals. This should all be planned and so not require any commands.

happy days,
