Drivers?

If we want management and the public to accept that this business takes a long time to master and is a profession rather than a job, should we be calling ourselves "drivers"? I think we should use less slang. After all, I would not like a third party to start describing us in such terms.
Too sensitive?

To sensitive? No but our job is not all that special, lets face it. Well the pay doesn't reflect it.

Would you sooner be addressed as "Captain" at all times?

Jacksprat - yeah just a little too sensitive mate. Its neiter a job or a profession, its an adventure. From experience with airline managment, calling pilots "drivers" would be politie. hense why we call them pencil pushers, bean-counters and other more inpolitie terms.

Jack Sprat,
Perhaps aeroplane driver would be more appropriate.

Driver: Someone who drives a vehicle.

Vehicle: A conveyance for transporting people or things, especially a self powered one.

I believe that 2 or 3 kiwi EMB145 captains have recently departed from BMI regional here in the UK, to go work for Pacific Blue.

Jack Sprat. Virgin Blue pilots are not "Drivers". They call themselves "Maaates".

Luke SkyToddler, the BMI EMB145 Capts wouldn't have been ex Saab 340 with BM would they? Despatched quite a few Kiwi's that flew at BM but haven't seen any of them back down here yet. I know a few went from the 340 to the 145. Can't quite see what the draw of EMA is though?
