ten renewals...that has to be a record for a job ad!

always thought the renewals things was a silly requirement especially when there are no or minimal actual in flight IF requirements.

Stallie,

mebee they don't realise that there's only 1 renewal per year required nowadays. Used to be, in the good old days, renewals were every 6mths for class 1 instrument rating. I think the rating became a Class 3 if not renewed at 6 months, and the main restriction, I think, was to remain OCTA.

The Air Nauru advertisement certainly demands exceedingly high experience to fly a 737. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the post is already pencilled in for a management "mate"just waiting for the first vacancy. It surely must be the cushiest flying job in the Pacific Region. Live in Brisbane - very well paid by all reports -tax paid by Nauru - 40 hours a month and that is stretching it - lots of time off, aircraft has superb servicing, and only a few sectors in the network.

What gets me is that the government is broke, their properties are swarming with bailiffs, the life on Nauru is dreadful with lack of basic amenities, some navaids haven't worked for yonks, the public servants haven't been paid for weeks on end, water and power is often cut off, and the government is screaming poverty - yet someone can afford to waste a couple of thousands bucks on the ad in The Australian for one lousy pilot when they must already have no shortage of applications sitting in the in-tray.

Obviously there is no desire by the Air Nauru management to promote any of the Nauruan first officers who have been crewing the airline for 11 years or more. Surely they can't all be that bad. If so, it doesn't say much for their in-house progressive training. Some these guys have over 5000 hours on the 737 with one nearing 8000 hours as first officer.

Obviously the airline is looking for another instant captain. Makes you wonder why Air Pacific can train and promote their local pilots to a command, but Air Nauru have a policy of no promotion for first officers.

To require, as the advertisement states, a MINIMUM of 2000 command hours on jets including a MINIMUM of 1000 hours on the 737EFIS certainly proves that current first officers with Air Nauru are in a Catch-22 situation because they can never meet the requirements even if they stay as loyal first officers for 50 years.

Another 10 renewals and you'd outlast the airline.
