Question on Day VFR Syllabus (Aeroplanes)
Currently studying for the PAOS (overseas conversion) exam, day VFR syllabus. Block 1 of the syllabus has the following point:
8.1.2 Recall the limitations imposed on a student pilot permit holder with
regard to:
(a) conducting daily inspections;
(b) signing a maintenance release;
(c) reporting of defects.
I can't find the CAR/CAO, CAAP, AIP reference where this is defined. Can anyone help?
Cheers

G'day Headwind
Have a look at CAR 42ZC(4), especially part (d) there: "..... (not being a student pilot licence)..."
Schedule 8 (towards the back of the CAR 1988) outlines what mx can be carried out by a pilot entitled to do so.
So I think (a) and (b) are not allowed - not sure about (c) - have a look at CAR51 which talks about reporting defects. As student pilots are engaged in the operation of the aircraft i'd imagine they have a responsibilty to report a known defect
