Could someone please explain to me how you can have:
Quote:
* 300 Hrs Turbine
* 1500 Hrs on type
when the "type" is a SA227?
(I believe this is how it was listed in The Australian newspaper also).
Dickheads.

Are these guys serious!??
"Formal qualifications for Flying Doctors' pilots include more than 3000 hours 'pilot in command', 500 hours with a twin engine, 'pilot in command' and at least 500 hours of night flying....
....Fierce competition for positions means RFDS pilots are some of the best aeromedical pilots in the country. Most successful applicants have at least 5000 hours of flying experience"
Ahhhhh I needed a good giggle

I rarely get involved in idle chat here however I need respond to your last post.
The RFDS is a highly professional organization which is reflected not only in the quality of its pilots but throughout the whole workforce. The standards are high which is also reflected in the entry requirements.
What the RFDS is not is a training ground for future airline pilots. The RFDS is not and never will be part of the experience ladder for junior pilots looking for hours in their log book.
Due to the nature of the flying I dont think it unreasonable to ask that the required night flying experience be 500hrs. In fact I would seek to factor the hours as a well known airline does here in the UK. You could have .2 of an hour for every 1 hr spent in the circuit in a C172 but I would give you hour for hour for any night freight or charter work. Your command time sitting in the right hand seat instructing would also be factored.
The general public being served by the RFDS has a right to expect that the aircraft, and crew that operate them, are the the best available.

cloudcover,
Heard the last round of adverts had 70 applications, 16 first stage phone interviews, then 7 second stage panel interviews, down to 4 check flights.
Apparently not everyone passes the subsequent endorsement and line training either.

cloudcover,
A little while ago there were 800 AN pilots on the market, average experience around 8000hrs, and some went to RFDS. There is no shortage of that type of experience in Aus.
