New airline System in Australia
Hi all
I am not a pilot but merely an Australian passenger who flies on jets occasionally.
I have recently read about the near miss of a Virgin Blue plane with a light aircraft which may have something to do with a recently introduced system of air traffic control.
Can someone please, in layman's language, explain to me the difference between the old system and the new system and secondly can you please advise whether this significantly increases the risk of flying on passenger aircraft in Australia?
i'm sure that there are lots of readers who are not pilots who would like an insiders view of what is happening so that they can make an informed choice about whether to fly or not rather than relying on the newspapers.
Thanks
Peter

I am no professional pilot but i do have my PPL and quiet frankly the new system is a load of bull. Essentially it incoperates the American system(Which is not suited to the australian Air traffic environment) of ATC in to the extreamly dated Australian system. The only problem is that they only bought half of the sytem over
Essentiall all the changes incoperate are "rezoning" of airspace (A,C,D,E,G) and changing the rules used in them IE traffic advice, procedures, frequencies etc
There is nothing for the traveller to worry about. With this sytem being more of a hassle and safety issue to pilots of smaller aircraft
There are simply to many canges for me to list them here for you but if you are still interested you can find out more at

hope this help. If you would like me to elaborat just PM me and i will list all the changes for You
Hope this helps
