C206 Down
Reports of a C206 crashing on takeoff from Undarra south west of Cairns. Plane written off, pilot and pax ok.

i didn't think it was a C206, but it did crash land at Undarra, operated by Daintree Airservice Cairns. The plane crash landed in the dried out swamp, quite some distance from the aerodrome.

Half the runway at undara is a dried out swamp! It's like landing on an aircraft carrier after a decent rain, except the roos on the strip!

My scant - but correct - information is:
Windshear may have been a factor. The aircraft suffered little damage in the incident. Major damage was caused by an overnight storm, when the aircraft was blown inverted.
Not sure who you are referring to as the pilot, but if you are referring to the aircraft owner, you are incorrect.
The rest is up to the ATSB.

Hehehe …amazing how rumour can grow. Crashing it and surviving was one thing but then a local storm flips it over and breaks its’ back … a grass fire started by the storm comes roaring through …. an earthquake swallows the wreck up in a crevasse … a bloody meteorite plugs the crevasse and then Undarra erupts again burying the lot in a friggin’ fresh lava flow!
Might be rebuildable though!

the staff at undara and the recovery team from hawkers in cairns all worked very hard to form a fire break around the machine.
their efforts actually stopped the bush fire from causing any further damage.
a storm was reported by staff from undara whom found the machine rolled over the day after the incident.
this was one of the most well maintained and spotless machines in australia.
i was lucky enough to start my career on an other machine operated by the same company some years ago.
It also was immaculate.
and guess what ?? i was paid above award, and well looked after as many other young pilots were and still are by this company.
lets hope they can replace it with one nearly as good again so other pilots can experience the joy of flying a machine as good as that one was. What a shame !!!!!

Hmmm windshear???? I bet "oz's best 206 driver" is trying to so find some link between the damage done and a certain companies B200!!! Even if the 200 was on the ground at Cairns!!!

Hmmm....I don't think many aircraft would take being towed inverted on any surface too well!! At least it didn't get burnt! Just structurally stuffed! At least the radios and other parts undamaged can be salvaged!!! Unless of course the storm caused all the electrics to be soaked!!!

from a witness, who is a pilot from another company:
It did crash, it was VH-USD operated by Daintree Airservices, it did snap off the nose wheel and prop strike and come to rest some 1.5 nm from the airstrip.
It came to rest on its nose and was left there as is, during the night the wind did blow it on it's roof and due to a fire some guy in a tractor dragged it on its roof out of the way of the fire.
Wow, this story was apparently well hidden, untill the accident report comes out anyway.
The machine has now taken up residence on the grass at the Hawkers hangar in CS.
