CASA taking the fun out of aviation

I have just read in this months AUSTRALIAN AVIATION that the 'on the airbands' article has to be scrapped because CASA were using it to pin pilots for 'non-standard' use fo the radio! This is totally rediculous if you ask me! What does everyone else think? CASA seem to have nothing better to do than suck the fun and passion out of aviation in Australia. I couldn't believe what i was reading!!!!!!!

Publishing stuff heard via a scanner isn't my idea of clever or ethical.

Makes me wonder whether they breach any copyright provision for one thing.

I agree that using these columns as a source of leads on possible reg infringements is a sneaky, unethical use of CASA's resources, but the fault is with the writers, who have demonstarted a lack of regard for the pilots privacy and rights.

Airbands clearly has provided CASA with plenty of leads - so should we all be shedding tears about their demise?

I think not!

cheers,

Clearly the pen pushers in CASA believe that we in aviation are having too much fun, when they aren't.

Therefore, since they don't believe that fun should be part of the professional pilot's lot, very serious stuff this flying business, they feel quite justified behaving like the complete and utter regulators that they are.... Pity it doesn't have any beneficial effects on the achievement of their stated goal.... er, safety, remember?

Life's a bitch, then you fly!

You do have to feel sorry for Mr E. F. but at the same time envy, because his Tiger Moth seems to travel long distances very very quickly.
Feeling sorry because whenever anyone replaces a callsign in 'Airbands' it inevitably is changed to this bloke's. Wonder how many times CASA phone him about various stuff he didnt do?

Devil

just a wee question - does anyone know of anyone who has fallen foul of CASA thru Air Bands???

as so many in the industry would ask - where is the proof?

and a statement in a glossy mag is not proof!!

Yes, all the above is valid but you have to admit this the following item in that I think was on Airbands was funny...

C765: This is Cessna 765, I'm out of fuel.
ATC: Establish best glide, squawk 7700, and say position!
C765: Ummm... I'm not really sure.
ATC: See any landmarks?
C765: Well, I'm here parked behind the hangar, and I can see the end of Runway 12. I'm sure the fuel truck will find me.

Adelaide Office

The reason why we have problems with CASA is that we have clowns at the Adelaide office by the names of Don Campbell and Dale South... both who had rather dubious flying careers with poor old fuddy duddy Don stumbling around with the RFDS and nasty little Dale, who made a life out of making others miserable! Dale has a horrible reputation of being a genuinely nasty pasty... He should be held partially responsible for the mess that aviation in South Australia finds itself today...

I often wondered the same thing about poor VH-ABC

What about Mr B.D and his PA-32 VH-BIC? "Did you really log all that time?"

Yes, all the above is valid but you have to admit this the following item in that I think was on Airbands was funny...
A similar one was the guy who called an engine failure and when asked his intentions revealed he was in the run up bay and it as it was a nice day he'd walk back to the club rooms

Thumbs down On the Airbands demise!

In a nutshell, on the airbands ceased being funny and enlightening many years ago......it was always meant to be a lighthearted look at the 'banter' often exchanged between pilots and others ON THE AIRBANDS....but in the last few years, the standard of entires to this column was nothing less than garbage unworthy of even a brief read. It would even appear on more than one occasion, you had to be 'in the know' to understand the relevance of some of the items covered.
Anyone who thinks CASA seriously used this column as a source for prosecutions really is lending some level of credebility to this farcicle column which IT DOES NOT deserve.
Does anyone seriously believe this trash column was terminated because of CASA's unwarranted involvement!? If ON THE AIRBANDS had been a thoroughbread racehorse, it would have been put down long ago! Not a day too soon I say!

Well Parablues sound like you have a real snout on with CASA Adelaide, and with Dale South. get caught doing something Narsty did we?

Why dont you grow some balls son and front up at the CASA Office and Tell Dale to his face?

As you dont sound like the brightest crayon in the box, I would suggest if you are not in shape and you can not fight you had better go and do some training!
