Oh boy,
Give us a bit an idea of how many hours you got, and how long you intend to be in the Far North? If you stay for a few weeks and go home Id say nothing will happen for you, You have to do the "long wait "up there usually. Good Luck.

Sheep

P.S. Coming up on the wet season now so youll find it a little tuff depending on your hours.

Arriving in Kunnas or similar in April will be possibly a bit too late. The season will have started and the operators will already have all their new hires..but you may get lucky if someone leaves... you may win Lotto too!

If you arrive early Dec-Jan you give yourself time to get to be known by the operators. Maybe they will think of you when the time comes, but please realise you will be 1 out of maybe 30 odd pilots tending bar and pumping gas until then.

Sorry if it sounds pessamistic but that is the reality of it.

If you have other skills that you can bring to the operator, like speaking another language, or customer service skills, etc than they may find you more attractive as a new hire than the next bloke. If you all have 200 odd hours then what the difference? EEney meeney miney moe....

Try to get as much 210 or 206/182RG time in command as you can before lobbing up there, and experience operating off dirt strips as well if possible...it will help lots as not every runway is 1000m long bitumen with a PAPI and a tower up there...

my two cents.

Ohboy,

Suggest you find a time that everyone thinks is the "right" time and then go any time other than that.

You probably know about Kununurra to some extent but I cannot emphasise enough how many people are there at the "right" time.

Personally, I really would stay away from Kununurra myself, there is little or no progression on to twins and the supply and demand nature of the industry means you will earn next to nicks for your efforts (Pay/ Duty time)

I would suggest Broome, it's not as good a location as Kununurra however it does have a beautiful beach and there is a lot less competition for work. You would also have a good chance to do your bit for foreign relations.

Some good companies to try would be;

Broome Aviation (owns Northwest Regional); Broome

King Leopold; Broome

Golden Eagle; Port Hedland

Polar Aviation; Port Hedland

Oasis Air; Halls Creek

Wyndham Air Charter; Wyndham (Surprisingly)

If you have a thousand hours (I think) and PA-31 and B58 endorsements you could also try

Aus West Aviation; Newman (I think)

The top end of WA is a good area for work if you get with the right company. A lot of guys will spend all of there GA time with the one company before getting their big break. IMHO it seems to have more potential than Darwin as I believe High Altitude is usually looking for higher time these days and he runs most of Darwin pistons.

Good luck, Willie

I would definately go Broome over Kunna's. As Willie said, less competition for work, great beach and backpackers - nuf said( actually, want to add great fishing and pubs)! Think about getting a bus license (those little ones), and maybe a First Aid certificate. Just little extras to help sell yourself.

If you don't mind living in a real sh*thole for a while, Halls Creek can be good. Full-time award pay and twin progression.
