IFR ratings in Adelaide
Just after some information on doing an IFR rating in adelaide.
from what i have managed to find out is that only ASA/ TKFS and Air South seam to do them. ASA/TKFS use a very expensive seneca 1 and seam to cost 15 grand for the rating which includes the test and testing dude and a/c endorsment. While Air south qouted that it should cost about 10 grand, but this does not include endorsment or test fee. but i cant see how they can do it in a baron for about 500 bucks per hour. Was aslo told that their baron flies approaches at 190kts. fior a cat b aircraft that seams a little fast. is this true as i have never flown one, bt me thinks its a bit of marketing ****. also how can they justify $500 per hour for a B58 when a quick search foud that johnson's in pt Macqurie put theres out at under $400/hr. Any advice would be very helpful.

Polish asa have been sold & from what I believe the flying school side is non-exsistant anymore. I have done an endorsment on the baron of Airsouths & it cost me from memory about $1500. I dont know what they are like for the rating as they were not doing these when I done the endorsememnt. We didnt fly any approach at 190kts however the a/c in question does cruise at this plus a bit more. Try Jack from mildura for price as they are not to far from Ypad.

POLISH ... I think what you will find, if you care to read some regs and rules prior to commencing your rating, is that the Baron will TAS at 190kts ( yes, it is a fast baron), but NO way known can you fly an approach at that speed...
Firstly : as it is a CAT B aircraft, it is limited to a maximum of 180kts IAS after passing the IAF, then a MAXIMUM of 130kts after passing the FAF, with a MAXIMUM of 135KIAS for circling.
Secondly : Although I have never flown a Baron, I would imagine that, like most piston twins, slowing one down, whilst on descent, AND looking after the engines, an approach at 190kts would pretty quickly lead to a missed approach!
I would venture to say that the info you got may have been misinterpreted. 190kts is a GREAT selling point to anyone looking to charter or pvt hire a piston twin! Mind you, with a rocket such as this for your rating, you will spend LESS time going FROM point A to point B, which could be why you will save money on a rating!
On a slightly different point... Has the ASA flying school just been shut down ? did they not sell it? it would seem like a HUGE waste of money and assets if that is the case.
Polish.... before doing your CIR, ring around; see if you can get some ICUS time as part of the deal! whilst people argue over the point of ICUS, if you CAN get some time sitting there seeing how commercial ops are done, then why not ? Also it IS hours in the log book!!!despite what people say.

The last I heard re the TKFS was that Air North did not want it but that someone was interested in taking it over.
RH was going to continue as testing officer and GL likewise as the Sim instructor.
