I am Looking for a flightsim program
I hope I have the right forum for this one.
I have just recently aquired a PC to use as a flight sim so naturally I am looking for some software for it.
There is a one that alot of schools use I think it is called "sky train" would any of you out there have any clues were I could get this one from? its an oldie but its a goodie for what I want to use it for.
Of course I am not looking for a pirated copy thats illegal , I would dream of doing that

www.x-plane.com is about the best one around at the moment.
Perhaps not quite the best graphics, but it flies more like a real aeroplane than the others.

Or just put flight sim 2002 onto your computer. You will find there is actually alot of software out there for flight sim (most of it free) which will allow you to get the aircraft you require and use it for training.
Other than that have a hunt around on the internet and see what you can find btu be careful not to put something onto your computer that it can't handle.

Actually FS2004 (aka FS - Centenary of Flight, aka Flight Sim 9) is now out
For those with sufficiently speedy computers if offers stunning graphics and the ability to fly some interesting aircraft, from the Wright Flyer to the B747-400 out of the box. Add 3rd party aircraft, scenery and other addons and you've got hours of funs :-)
If you're after more accurate flight models, check out X-Plane.
FS uses a table to work out forces in flight based on speed, AoA etc. X-Plane uses "blade element theory", where is breaks the aircraft down into components and calculates the force on each component - hence a more realistic flight model.

I'm a convert to x-plane (mac and windows versions) and can vouch for its fun factor as well as its accuracy in flight modelling. Switching planets to Mars (!) and having options for setting space weather is kind of interesting too!
However FS2004 got a great review in this months Aus Aviation.
My inclination is that your computer platform may be the decider. Its hard to get a ripped off copy of X-plane so if you are windows user, might be an easy decision.

I haven't actually tried X-Plane - I'm going off what I've read and others have told me. Truth be told - I barely find enough time to play with FS2004, yet alone dedicate time to learn another sim. I do feel a little guilt at making Bill Gates a little richer...
However, the number of users of FS mean you will probably find the add-on aircraft and scenery you want. And despite its deficiency I find it accurate enough for me (PPL holder)
Doesn't HAVE to be the 3ghz P4 - I meant don't get the sh*ts when it doesn't run on your Pentium 166 
I'm running a mid spec AMD Athlon (<$800 (no monitor etc))

Wonder if anyone's developed an add on that simulates CASA involvement?...limits the amount of work you can do on your model, and ramp checks you and stuff...
