Qantas hiring requirements
Ok... so it's a bit of a silly question... i can almost answer it my self... just thought more enlightened opinions would help...
I meet all the qantas requirements (having just completed my ATPL exams)... bar one.
With regard to one of the three HSC subjects... i fall short by 6%. For whatever reason (there were so many... none of them deserving of any sympathy ), i didn't fair as well in the relevant subject as i should have.
Ten years on, i don't feel it is an accurate indication of my 'grasp' of the subject. Also, my results in the other subjects were reasonably good as were my university results and my ATPL results.
So here is my question...
How stringent would Qantas be about the requirement? Would my application automatically generate a "Do not meet requirements" letter? Would there be some annoyance at me even trying? Would there be some leniency/consideration, given due my other academic achievements and 5 years working in the industry?
I am aware of various courses done at TAFE to up your marks... and definately will sign up for it... but as i am going overseas to further my career... i don't see myself in a position to start anything for another year. Does anyone know of any correspondence courses that may help me tackle this? ANy specific courses i should consider in general?
Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Have you been living on an island. Geez, you should have stopped when you realised that you could answer your own questions.
Bottomline-- you don't meet the requirements, it's as simple as that. Why would and why should they show any lenience to you as opposed to anyone else.
I think that you should spend a couple of weeks reading ALL the other posts (hundreds of them no doubt) that will answer every question that you could possibly have. If it was a quick fire Q then I'm sure people would help.
Hopefully I'm wrong but your post just screams of either immaturity, arrogance or lazyness.
Bugga, ...??? is this a wind up or what????

Ouch! That hurt.
Fair point mate.
I should keep my mouth shut in future. I'm sure though just "You don't meet the reqmnts... and thats that" would have sufficed. Must admit my suprise at your lambasting... you obviously don't suffer fools very well. Fair enough... just rather discouraging for a new poster.
BTW i wasn't expecting any leniency as such... just wondering how the system worked... and yes... i in fact have been living on an island... for some time now.

not meaning to go on.. but just wanted to point out the latter section of the original post... where i asked for suggestions on suitable courses. I think thats what it was really about... don't you?
Forgive me if the fodder preceding aroused your anger. Perhaps i should have worded it better... so as not to come across as 'immature, arrogant or lazy'.
This is 'D & G Questions' isn't it?

If you have a Degree then it is likely that QF will accept your application. QF will accept any subject as long as it is at tertiary level and is related to the subject you failed.
The best thing to do is to give recruiting a call. They are very approachable and should be able to help you out.

While Shaaaablammm is technically correct I think the same response could have been made in a more diplomatic manner.
Aviation - especially GA - is full of Hard asses (or Hard Arses as Creampuff would have it).
There are lots of bridging courses and a search on PPRuNe D&G will point you in the right direction.
Good luck

a follow up for those who may be interested
Well i did contact pilot recruitment as suggested by the more 'helpful' posts and found out (to my relief) that my tertiary academic achievements will substitute (in a manner of speaking) for the deficient HSC exam result.
So if there was anyone who had similar inquiries (but were a little intimidated to ask them here... see first reply above)...
FYI: A degree pretty much automatically counts and if degree has not been completed, uni level subjects would be assessed by pilot recruitment based on the individual subject syllabus. Qantas pilot recruitment REALLY are extremely helpful and considerate.
Thanks again for the positive replies. Perhaps not a "quickfire" Q... but certainly "quickfire" replies that were very helpful.
... oh and yes, i DID read as many previous posts on the matter, but found none that provided a sufficient answer. Had i not done this first... you'd think my post screamed of "immaturity, arrogance or lazyness". :-)
So it seems... 'bottomline' i do meet the requirements after all... (simple as that) and i don't require any 'leniency' or special consideration.
Thanks 'all' for the advice.
:-) :-)

Well done mate.
However,
I quote, " I meet all the Qantas requirements, (having just completed all my ATPL exams)... bar one."
A bit like going to the dunny and not wiping ya ar.e. You haven't finished the job.
It seems to me that you STILL do not meet ALL the requirements. It is as simple as that. The fact you don't have the ATPL exams passed means that you will not be able to apply.

Dear Mr. shaablamm you fall into that unfortunate and rather large category of Ppruners who are quick to roast others for mistakes but who parade their own like a whores knickers. I wonder what you may have scored in your English Comprehension tests ? Please reread the original post by RoSiPaSi and you will see the following.
I meet all the qantas requirements (having just completed my ATPL exams)... bar one.
With regard to one of the three HSC subjects... i fall short by 6%.
Now i could be wrong but to my mind that means he has passed the ATPL's but had reservations regarding his application due to a shortfall of 6% in one of his HSC subjects. So before you climb on that high, high horse why not cut the rest of us a little bit of slack and consider the thought that we're maybe not quite as dumb as you would believe.

Ahh! Now I get it. Yes I did read the said line again and yes I am mistaken. Rosi I appologise for making the last suggestion regarding the 'one' exam. As for the rest. I did mention that I hoped I was wrong.
V P, as a matter of fact I have always scored high in comprehension tests, although I haven't had a go at one for years. My written has always been to a high standard also, high enough to prompt oneself to be a little more aware of the way some put across their queries. My only defence, it could have been written better.

I have ALL the minimums required but have been told to go away, and don't come back.
I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of us every year that have the minimums and in many cases, way more who don't even get a chance at stage one. So I think the reality if you don't meet the minimums are ..... buckleys.

Boney,,,
Now why would they tell you to go away before even giving you a reasonable reason (ie failing stage 1) to not ever come back!!!....sounds a little harsh to me...care to shed some light (ie more details)...most of us looking through this thread I'm sure are in a similar position as you....waiting for a letter/invite for stage 1 testing.

happydriver, I get the feeling that there are alot of us out there who meet the minimum requirements but have received the 'application not competitive' line. I suspect it is the age/hours issue (for us old farts in their 30s). I was told I could have my application reviewed in 12 months but I aint gunna be any younger!

I would rather not say exactly - but I do appreciate Qantas being honest with me and not dangling the stage 1 golden carrot above me for 5 years when there is no intention of actually seriously considering me anyway.
slice
Yes it is difficult, being an old fart myself (early 30's), we have both met the minimums and therefore our resume probably looks now as good as it is ever going to get (for Qantas). In 2 years time the resume as a total may look better, but the old filled in 'Date of birth' may well ensure a quick disposal.
"I was hoping to be this months token old bloke"!!?
Ah well, that's life. Good luck to all those currently on the books, if you make it you will be working for a great airline and all the struggles will be worth while.
