Strokes, the FAA, and the Ted Stevens Crash

Ted Stevens plane crash: Did pilot's health issues contribute to accident? | Alaska Dispatch

Lengthy article looks at the Ted Stevens crash and the way the FAA regulates pilot health issues.

Major points include:

  1. No coordination between countries allowing health issues in one country to go unreported in another.
  2. FAA does not follow up on pilot health reports.
  3. Pilots have an incentive to underreport health issues to keep flying.
Overall, a surprisingly well-written and balanced article that raises some troubling issues.
