Pilot missing after planes collide over S.F. Bay
from USA TODAY:
Pilot missing after planes collide over S.F. Bay
Pilot missing after collision over San Francisco Bay
Involved were a Cessna 210 and a Hawker Sea Fury. The Cessna crashed and the Hawker landed safely. Both were leaving an airshow.

what is really amazing to me is that the sea fury flew another 40 minutes to get to an airport when it was within 10 minutes of BETTER airports.
From San Pablo Bay to Ione. Thats a long way compared to the airports along the way INCLUDING the biggest US Air Force Base on the west coast.

Wouldn't that decision depend on the evaluation of the damage by the pilot? Getting to homebase for repair would certainly be a better option than landing at an airport where hangaring and maintenance would be a more costly and difficult proposition. Apparently, the airplane was capable of continuing to it's home airport in a safe manner after self-evaluation by it's pilot.
Until we know what the damage to the Sea Fury was, we can't really second guess the pilot, who was there to make the decision.
