More wierd aviation news...

Pilot: Passenger fell out of plane; Miami offshore search continues

The investigation began about 1:30 p.m. after a pilot who’d taken off from Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport in a Piper PA 46 issued an emergency radio call, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! I have a door ajar and I’m heading toward Tamiami,” the pilot calmly said. “I have a door ajar and a passenger that fell down. I’m six miles from Tamiami.”

“You said you’ve got a passenger that fell out of your plane?” an air traffic controller asks.

“That’s correct, sir,” the pilot responded. “He opened the backdoor and he just fell out the plane.”

'Wierd'

"Wierd," used by people that cannot correctly spell the word "weird."

Perhaps he was wired...

Not without precedent unhappily, there was the case of a female passenger jumping from a B200 on approach into Leavesden 30 odd years ago, and wasn't there a recent case with C152?

I have some time in a PA46. That door is not that easy to open, so the passenger must have really wanted out.

This would make a good Holywood scenario :

Him ( Pilot Flying) : I told you this girl means nothing to me '
Her : I ask you , or you do not stop seeing her , or I leave you !
Him :Common , be reasonable...
Her : No! (opens the door and leave ...)

Quite possibly pax went back to resolve a door ajar indication....and was more successful than intended...this happened many moons ago on a Bar Harbor B-99...the Capt exited but his foot became lodged between the door support cables and the door...he was hung by his foot until landing...

many moons ago a guy thought he'd impress friends fishing near the island of Rottnest by 'dropping in on them'.
he hired a local tiger moth for a scenic flight and directed the unsuspecting pilot over to somewhere near where his friends were fishing.
without the pilot being aware he unbuckled, stood up and departed the aircraft.
events happened too fast for the pilot to stop him.

what he didnt know as he leapt was that hitting water at speed was like hitting concrete.

he died. the pilot was quite shocked by the event.

There was a incident California years ago where a woman opened the cabin door on a Twin Otter and jumped out. There were other passengers onboard that saw her open the door and jump.

It was ruled a suicide.

Here's a news report about that one:

Reuters today reports that a man's body has been found in the general area where the pilot reported his pax missing.
