Such a great difference

Hi everybody,

while looking for the differences between the FAA and JAA type of commercial license training, I've seen that there's as much as hundreds of hours of ground training in the JAA commercial, while about 5-10 in the FAA one. Now what I've understood, it''s that it takes longer to do the commercial training in Europe, because the theory of the training is the one of the ATPL, so what you get after hundreds of hours of lessons is a full commercial - frozen ATPL.
While most of the programs I've seen from some schools in North America, offers the pure and simple CPL with as little as 10 flight hrs and 5 hrs ground. Now what I was wondering was: is it possible to get an American frozen ATPL, following the CPL training ?

Maybe that's a very obvious question, yet I have no answer.

Thanks

Etropi

No. There is no "frozen" ATP in FAA land. You can take your ATP written when you're 21 but years ago you couldn't even take the written until you had 1500 hours. You'll see resumes stating a pilot holds a commercial certificate and has passed their ATP written.
