Contract pilot jobs for Americans - info

Just thought I would post a little info on contract flying. I flew for United for 13 years. I had a good career their but wanted to try something different. Their are lots of contract jobs around the world. It "dried up" a bit the last 2 years, but has started picking up the last 6 or 8 months.

Their is lots of good info on PPRUNE in the Rest of the World section. Lots of chaff as well.

Do your homework on the airline, but also the contract agency. Their are a lot of fly-by-night agencies, some of which operate under multiple names due to their bad rep. The only 2 reputable "big" agencies are Parc Aviation and Direct Personnel. By reputable I mean they stand up for their pilots. There are also a couple of good smaller agencies. CCL does Korean Air only, and CREW does ANA and a couple of other Japanese carriers. I have not used either, but most of their crews seem reasonable content. China seems to have 50 little agencies all trying to recruit pilots, most if not all have bad reps.

Right now their are lots of jobs in China, Korea, India, SE Asia, Middle East, and even a few in eastern Europe.

I just left Vietnam Airlines and am going to China in a month. Having lots of fun, and making more than a 747 captain at my "old" airline.

Especially ideal for experienced pilots who are single, or recently divorced with no kids . . . and homeless.

homeless..........

Ahhh, what a 'grand career' we have. Sad, every six months, our livelihood laid on the line. But thank goodness, it's a painless transition to another career..............................if needed or desired. Love it though.

REALLY Vietnam!?

I've often thought about going there as a tourist. What's it like? Is it worth it?

Actually sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy ...
