Virgin America
Does anyone know the status of Virigin America being allowed to operate in the USA yet? Last I heard was they were still denied a certificate but the crews were still getting trained in Miami at Airbus.
I have a friend that left to work there and was wondering what the scoop was.
I also wonder how Virgin will treat the crews without a contract.

I flew with a guy last night who was recently hired by VA but decided to pass. Didn't want to lose his current seniority for a job that may not exist, must have been a tough call to make cause he lives in SFO also.

5th Freedom vs. cabotage
Fifth Freedom rights include the rights of foreign air carriers to carry passengers between other countries, outside its own; cabotage is the right of foreign air carriers to fly domestic flights inside another country.
Would Sir Branson, BA or the British Government, for example, object to Cubana or Lloyd Aero Boliviano, or Bangladesh Biman, to set up shop in the UK and operate 20 flights per day between LHR and MAN . . . to generate hard currency?

After reading Richard Branson's autobiography, I doubt he would mind Lloyd Aereo Boliviano operating in the UK if they bring some of that famous Bolivian export.

Let's start an alternative website - www.letvadie.com
The last thing the industry needs is another discounter with pathetic pay rates.

They re-applied for permission to operate with the FTC. But the process will take at least another three weeks.
They hired some heavy hitters to shake things up (George Bush Sr. Chief of Staff to name one).
So I wouldn't count them out yet, but its laughable how much money they are spending trying to get past all the sharks (Continental, United, Delta, etc).
Wait and see.

Its not one sided!!!
The feeling is quite the same on the Eastern side of the pond. Open skies to let the American masses into LHR - dont think so. Just hope Tony Blair and the mob have the b@lls to say NO!
Not a rant - I just like things to be kept fair. My company would find it very difficult to compete without the protection of Ch11 that the yanks enjoy.
Just a thought......
