Question ATP MEL or SEL?

Hi everybody!

I am heading to the States to take an ATP practical exam in order to get an ICAO ATPL license.

I currently fly on JAA License, but just a CPL/IR + Airbus 320 rating.

I planned to take the ATP MEL, but my aim is to not to fly on light twin engine aircraft so I am not sure a MEP rating is necessary, my aim is to get an FAA ATPL in order to apply for Jobs that require an ICAO ATPL. I guess I could do the type rating afterwards.

What if I take an ATP SEL? Any restrictions?

Any input is welcome!

Thanks for your help!

Frederic

Any restrictions???

Yup, you are restricted to single-engine land.....
Meaning that you can not fly an A320 with ATP privileges (command).

Are you aware of the hour requirements for ATP??

I have the requirements to get an FAA ATPL.
With restriction I mean shall I add later on the A320 type rating on an ATPL SEL license?
Hope you see what I mean!

Thank you!

The ATP SEL is usually just a useful tool to keep ATP written exams from expiring. It is pretty much useless for anything else, since operations requiring an ATP are almost invariably twin-engine or larger.

However, I suspect that if you do get the ATP SEL, and later qualify for an ATP type rating on the A320, the examiner/inspector will automatically issue you the ATP MEL.

You can't fly **any** multi-engine aircraft on an FAA SE licence. PPL, CPL or ATP. A single engine licence is exactly what it says: for SINGLE ENGINE aircraft.

To add an A320 rating (or whatever) you will need an MEL. You can often do the MEL test as part of the type rating test.
