SAS ansetter 130 piloter

jackx123 3rd Oct 2011 12:44

highly doubt that they will g back to SK a few of them are with EK, EY, QR etc and why the heck would they give up a command there and go back to a lesser career

:ugh:

180 pilots have been asked, 50 answered no, and the remaining 130 are coming back. In addition a lot of pilots being fired were re-hired before they even left the company.

As I understand, most of the pilots which will not come back are pilots fired from SAS a long time ago, meaning that they had only 2-3 years seniority from SAS, and are now captains with 8-10 years seniority in DY, Easyjet and some other major european airlines.

Almost all pilots flying in the middle east are coming back - being a captain one a big bird is not the only important thing in life...! I would have done the same!

By the way - to the first question: I have heard that the number returning from DY to SAS is 15-20 pilots.

directmisbi 3rd Oct 2011 20:24

There is bound to be more than the 180 guys? Still guys from my outfit who has said yes to coming back but are still waiting for an interview, they were laid off in 03...
By the way, and back to the original question, how many guys are needed in DY in 2012? Are they all gonna be cadets? And on which contract?

SK-pilot 4th Oct 2011 19:39

Why....? I did not say that SAS have fired 180 pilots during the past 10 years. SAS had to offer re-employment to 180 pilots to get the 130 they needed within the next months... I suppose your friend is lower on the list than the 180 then? I don't quite understand what you mean....

Regarding DY, I suppose some of the DY guys know something....?

MAHB 5th Oct 2011 14:26

So, how many have been fired over the past years? and when can we assume hiring of "new" crew will begin?

canadansk 6th Oct 2011 12:52

The many of the SAS guys I talk to at EK plan on returning to SAS. They were given a great opportunity to take a leave of absence and keep their seniority and have their pensions paid whilst they were away - what a great deal! This is the package I was told they were given but they must now decide to return or stay away. What the middle east does not offer is a pension and what you guys get is worth more than you realise. For the SAS guys that came to EK and got their wide body commands and made some tax free cash - LUCKY THEM, but now they see the light and many are returning. :ok:

rom 7th Oct 2011 15:21

Can't blame anyone leaving the middle east..!! Not even a left seat is enough to consider staying there..!

So to all the guys and girls going back congrats on a ticket back to the civilized world..!:-)

jackx123 8th Oct 2011 13:00

rom you haven't been there long enough hehe. me 14 years and only the last one sucked. after a stint in asia and now europe, going back to saudi.

europe is down the drain for the next 5-10 years so what is there to chose from....

you just need to accept reality. sas might have a bunch of retirees coming up but in the long run the airline is down the drain too.

i remember the aura it had in the 70/80's. it was incredible but now the PINK elephant will soon succumb to LH or another global operator who will use it as a feeder with the occasional direct route.

sas just lack scale economies in terms of fuel purchase, maintenance, crewing, finance etc

Hi jackx123

You might be right... But I would take the chance if the opportunity came to go back to scandinavia..( Never flew there besides out of ekrk for training). I have done my tour of Asia now ME..!!

Would gladly give up my seat here for any back home... The dream of expat life is for me over...

jackx123 8th Nov 2011 21:53

let's put it in simple terms no one will ever want to buy sas (well I guess of $1 it's possible).

LH was interested but when they found out that sas had over 70 unions to negotiate with they decided to use the open sky policy instead and do their own thing.

the squeeze is on and long term sas cannot sustain its present form or shape - unfortunately.

jackx123 18th Nov 2011 13:23

Tally hoo

strongly doubt you know anything from working in any of the gulf airlines. You can't even spell goof air correctly :}
