NEAR North European Aviation Resources (Norway): Complaints?
Dear (wannebe) Pilots,

Yes!
They do integrated flight training in cooperation with NAIA in SC, USA. I started my training in 2001 and finished with FAA and JAA certificates some 3 years later. All I can say is that you get what they promise you will get. If they are better or worse than any other school is hard for me to say... But in the end, I am currently emloyed as a pilot so I guess it worked for me;) Hope this helps:) |

Like many others I have attended this school, started in 2002. After NAIA, I got a job in northeastern US a few months, but was offered a position at NAIA, training new NEAR students. After coming back I really realized how incredible NAIA was, in regards to the program layout and quality of training. From my experience I have only positive things to say, and would choose the same school, if I had to start again. It is fairly affordable, but the best thing is the experience and hours you get as a CFI! That's what will get you a job in the future=hours. Don't know where your from, but in scandinavia NAIA is very well known and considered to be a school that produces pilots of high quality. If you choose the NEAR/NAIA deal, I can promise you won't get dissapointed, and you'll be well qualified for any pilot job, pretty much all over the world. Well..i'm there right now....and what i can say...
naia ground school is the best ever...but for the rest WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus we have just 4 c152 for the first three phases and we are like 15 people right now sharing that plane...but what is worst is that 30 new guys are arriving...and no plane at horizons... i still can't beleieve how they could accept new guys! just ask them thousands of time plans for new planes before starting or taking any decision! |

Specific questions I don't have, because I allready have found much information.
But I would like to have a general opinion from ex-students. 4 c152? NAIA operates also c172 and i thought has more aircraft in total (but i was wrong), how is it possible that they don't have enough aircraft. Please update me on the progress at NAIA please. I would like to know if you are being delayed a lot. |
1st of all there is not 20 planes at NAIA, 4 152s, 5 172s of which only 3 is approved for JAR training, 3 RGs and 2 seminoles, only 1 of them is approved for JAR training, and is an old piece of s*** always on maintenance...... That was the status when i left not to long ago.
Then you have the big classes coming in, heard there is about 50 students there now and about 5-6 instructors , most of them leaving this fall. So be prepared to spend 12 months at least. Theyre probably gonna tell you that they will or already have gotten new airplanes, but thats something theyve been saying for the last 2-3 years, just BS. |
But there are also aircraft for FAA training no?

If youre gonna do the integrated course through NEAR you fly JAR approved lessons in JAR approved planes and JAR approved instructors

What's the difference between a FAA-approved and JAR-approved aircraft? That was not a problem in 2002/2003!

I hope you keep us updated on the situation at NAIA/NEAR.
And I hope you will find the currage to confront the responsibles at NEAR/NAIA. If I were you, I would go to the responsible with all students and demand new aircraft. It's not only for yourself that you need to make sure there are enough aircraft, but also for new students. Don't just undergo the current situation, but try to change it! |

And if you go complain with all students! Or contact NEAR? How many months will it take to finish all your training? |

if I calculate right, 270 hours over 270 days (9 monhts) is about 1 hour flying a day.
Is that a big problem? And 14 monhts in stead of 9! Thats about half an hour a day flying... |
