Jobs in Scandinavia

Hi
I am looking a job from Denmark as my girlfriend would like to move back. I have FAA ATP and HS 125 and CE550 ratings 4000 hrs total. Is danish language required?
Tekel:ok:

Miserlou 28th May 2004 17:59

Don't take this the wrong way, mate, but with the current market you are unqualified (Non JAR Licence) and fairly low time. There are people with more hours who can't get work here.

Not much help, sorry.

You may want to enquire at the CAA (www.slv.dk) about converting FAA licences.

Good Luck.

Rule Distance Zero 28th May 2004 18:04

JAR licence

JAR licence is quite vital when seeking aviation jobs in Europe. I think that first thing to do is to convert your licence and then start a job hunt.

tekel 28th May 2004 18:54

I have been informed that Danish "SVL" will validate my FAA license for a year without any problems and maybe for longer until I have a chance to do JAA conversion. I will be moving to Copenhagen next month and hope that my brothers from north can help me to find a GOOD job. I prefer bizjets.
tekel:ok:

bluesafrica 29th May 2004 16:45

Don't know any Danish Hawker or Citation operators but Execujet in Roskilde has many Lears and also some Global Express. If you are interested in go and see their web page.
I am quite surprised to hear that Danish CAA will validate your FAA licence.
It would also help if you are able to speak danish.
From which country you originate?
Blues:ok:

tekel 29th May 2004 18:03

Hi Blues,
Thanks for the info. I will call them up! I am in process to marry Danish girl and I will then get Danish passport. I am not able to speak the language but sure will learn when in Copenhagen. I come from Pakistan.
Tekel:D

pilot dude 30th May 2004 11:18

I thought you had to wait 5 years before you could get a Danisch pasport?

PD

tekel 30th May 2004 11:48

PD,
I have been told that I will get a Permanent Residence Permit immediately and then Passport soon after. That makes me able to accept the flying job when ever I like.
Is there anybody with information of SAS. I may also consider airline job. Do SAS hire DE captains, salaries etc.?
Tekel

pilot dude 30th May 2004 11:51

Not to get you down but I'm also a foreigner 4000 hr DA20 rated JAA-ATPL EU pasport and unable to get a job in scandinavia,

I have to admit that I've been trying only in Norway and north sweden.

PD

tekel 30th May 2004 11:58

PD,
I will be living in Copehagen. Moving in three weeks time, Insallah.
Maybe see you there.
Tekel:ok:

pilot dude 30th May 2004 12:01

Well since there is a 'big river' inbetween Norway and Danmark I dont wander over to CPH that much

Danish Job...easy

Having worked in Denmark, with only a FAA ATP, and no problems with SLV, I am surprised with this load of rubbish. Just ask the SLV to validate your foreign licence, they will always do this for foreigners. I worked in Sweden several years ago, and was told to leave as the Swedish Pilots Union had been under pressure to remove all the foreigners, (Danes) from Sweden. So I was forced to leave too. Best of luck seeking employement in Denmark, they did have an open door for aliens...Just look at the number of kebab shops....windy

tekel 31st May 2004 10:26

Windy,
Thank you very much for this important info. Makes me feel more easy . I have sent several applications yesterday and hopefully will have some positive respond next few days. I can accept interviews mid June by all interested airlines.
I already like Copehagen and look forward to my new life there.
Tekel
:ok:

bluesafrica 31st May 2004 20:29

Have you already checked if you can join to Danish Pilot Union?
Would help a lot to join???
Blues

Timilu 31st May 2004 20:54

Tekel,

Youīll probably get a stay/workpermit rather quick after getting married, but passport will take several years. I donīt remember if itīs 5 or 7, but I remember friends waiting for a long time after marrying a dane.

DE captīs in SAS, forget about it. Maybe in a few years, after rehiring laid off pilots, they will start to recruit newhire co pilots.

Sorry for bringing bad news.

Rgds, and good luck

Timilu

tekel 1st Jun 2004 12:15

Does anyone have a list of VIP jets in Copehagen?
Before accepting any airline job would like to contact those owners first.
Tack

Diesel8 1st Jun 2004 17:12

So with a A-320 type, 1Ok total, plenty of pic A-320 and an FAA license, can one find a job in DK?

Yes, got the right to live etc.

But seems to me, that there should be plenty of Danish, not to mention EU pilots vying for the few jobs there are?

Aerosmith 2nd Jun 2004 09:00

NONE of the airlines in Denmark are hiring at the moment! Hundreds of fired/furloughed pilots waiting to return. General Aviation pretty much nonexistant at the moment. Lots of Bizjet drivers waiting in line. Latest belly up of Aviation Assistance left an additional 50 pilots on the street.
It doesn't look to good.
Frankly, without a JAR license, forget it.
It's a Tough marked at the moment.

Comical Ali 2nd Jun 2004 09:40

You sure make it sound pretty bad. I feel that there is always a job available for professional pilot with a good experience. Maybe danish pilot's have just priced them self out from the market?

I have also sent my CV for several owners and have reveived quite a good response. Maybe see you soon there.
Ali

Diesel8 2nd Jun 2004 13:40

"Maybe danish pilot's have just priced them self out from the market?"

Hmm, I am sure you shall be welcomed with that attitude!

Do let us know, who you get on with. I wouold be interested in seeing who is hiring!

Tekel,

Just curious, are you aware of any airline hiring in Denmark, as far as I know, most, if not all of them, have people on furlough/laid off. When they do rehire, it will probably be in seniority order.

Me thinks you are dreaming!

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 15:09

Dear Diesel,
I have a very positive reply from SAS. I also received good replies from few other private owners. I will decide soon which way to go.
I feel very confident for the future.
tekel

TheFatMan 2nd Jun 2004 15:37

So I guess you are kidding us then, SAS is not hiring at the moment... I would know if they did.

TFM

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 17:22

I am not kidding. I am not invited to interview as yet but I sure let you know the outcome. Read what I wrote , very positive reply.
In my part of the world one need to trust mans word! I hope that they will be able to offer some jobs to unemployed danes as well.
Tekel

Diesel8 2nd Jun 2004 17:25

So Tekel, what does this "very positive reply" say?

This I got to hear!

(Me smells windup)

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 17:41

Me can no tell secret you!
Tekel:E

Techman 2nd Jun 2004 17:44

Maybe he thinks that just to get a reply is positive.

Anyway, looking at the syntax he uses, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it's all a windup from our buddy up north.

Timilu 2nd Jun 2004 18:37

Techman

I donīt know. I think weīve just got a really really naiive youngster here.
Surely a simple windup artist would have been able to dream up something better and just a tad more believeable.
And thinking that heīll get a danish passport just by marrying:p

Next time, do some more homework Tekel

Rule Distance Zero 2nd Jun 2004 18:52

By the way Tekel,

Have you considered applying a job as an aircraft engineer. I think that many of you guys, where you come from, have both qualifications; pilot and engineer.
I suggest to try that route first and as we all know danes are very open minded for strangers and what comes to the language, danish or english, they will even teach you for free.

:\

Miserlou 2nd Jun 2004 19:36

I seem to remember hearing that people who were receiving positive replies from SAS (and by that I mean procedure completed and job offered) were unlikely to get a start date within the next five years. I can't remember if I heard this just before or just after the attack on the WTC.

I agree with you, though; getting any reply in the current state of affairs is very positive.

Comical Ali 2nd Jun 2004 19:50

Is there a real shortest of experienced engineers as well? I am licensed by FAA and could quite happily accept a position as engineer in beginning. Someone with more info?
What is the pay etc.. I have no objection to move immediately for the right job!
Ali

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 20:15

My passport is all sorted out. I will receive a permanent residence permit first and can work as any other Dane then after.
Passport will take a little longer, but not many years.

I prefer to have a cockpit job instead as engineer. However, I am also holding A&P License. Maybe it will be useful for some Danish owner. Any info welcome.
Tekel

Rule Distance Zero 2nd Jun 2004 20:28

Aviation jobs

Finnish companies are recruiting all the time. Blue1 is or at least was hiring pilots. They operate RJs and SF2Ks. Base is ofcourse in Finland and applicant should have knowledge of Swedish or Finnish and English. Air Finland was also hiring pilots for B757 but they prefferred Finnish nationality and good knowledge of the finnish language.
But hey, give it a try, you wonīt get nothing if you donīt push it hard. Good luck.
I always salute the ones who are underestimated by the others but still do not loose their will for something.
Better days to everybody, keep on going.:)

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 20:36

Thank you for the nice info. It is good to hear that economy is moving forward in Scandinavia!
I will obviously have my best go in Copehagen. I feel confident that my kind of experienced and hard working man will get a job. Even if there seem to be lot of fellows with negative attitude for their future. Some of us don't simply like to work.
I don't speak danish or swedish yet, only urdu and english but feel confident that in few short months my new employer will be surprised when I come and ask a raise in danish!!
Tack!:O

Techman 2nd Jun 2004 21:07

As Timilu said, you should do your homework before starting a windup.

First of all, you can not get a permanent residence permit until after you have completed an introductory course, passed a Danish language test and have live legally in the country for 7 years. Until then you can only get a temporary permit for maximum one year.

Secondly, it will take a minimum of 8 years before you can apply for a Danish passport, that is you are married, otherwise it is 9 years.

Now, I won't bore you with geography, but you obviously also have a few things to learn in that department. But since you know Urdu, I suggest you take Rule Distance Zero's advice and look for work in Finland instead.

tekel 2nd Jun 2004 22:08

Dear Techman
You obviously do not know anything about Danish rules. Just stay away behind your hills. I will arrive to Copehagen soon and get my life going in good Scandinavian way! I am a hard working honest man and there will be no problem at all.
If I can't get a position as captain in beginning I am ready to work as licensed engineer. Main thing is to make a good start and I am sure that Allah will look after me.
Tekel

Rule Distance Zero 2nd Jun 2004 22:09

What an PI you are my fiend

For this Tekel stuff, I have to disappoint you. Have nothing but my posts here to do with it.:bored:
If you again will try to pull me into the previous bull, forget it.

Winding or not, who f...g cares.:E it is still very entertaining and even in english.:ok:

Comical Ali 2nd Jun 2004 22:22

Techman,
Do you know situation in other Scandinavian countries for pilots? Which country you come from, Finland? I have no objection to work in Finland as well but not able to speak language. Maybe better life in Copenhagen? Is there lot of foreign pilots working in Scandinavia? All info helps.
Ali

Techman 2nd Jun 2004 23:43

Tekel, it is obviously YOU who do not know the rules.

I have been quoting the official regulations, and if you think otherwise you will be in for a rude awakening.

I am Danish and I can guarantee you that you are fooling yourself if you think it is as easy as you say. And an FAA A&P is of no use in a JAR country. As you should know. Either way, you will only get a work permit if no local (EU or Nordic) are available for the job.

BTW it is Copenhagen, might help you if you spell it correctly. And don't say thank you in swedish. You Danish girlfriend should have corrected you a long time ago....no?

RDZ, you were rumbled at you first post.

tekel 3rd Jun 2004 00:14

Dear Mr Techman,
Please, understand that my situation is different. I am not immigrating alone to Denmark. I will marry a danish girl and I will have all necessary paperwork ready in no time. Thank you very much for your advices anyway. Are you working in Copehagen?
With what airline? Is your company short of experienced crew?
I am trying to check all possible avenues to find a job. I also have few very experience friends looking the possibility to move for more peacefull location with better future prospects.
I am sorry but my danish is not more than few words. You know , between man and woman, we speak english when together. I am sure that I will surprise you soon with my danish!
Thank you for the info.
Tekel

Techman 3rd Jun 2004 00:21

Infact, you will have to prove that you and your (future) danish wife have more connections to Denmark than elsewhere. If not you will not even get a temporary residence permit.

If you would care to actually read my post you would understand this, perhaps

www.denmark.dk would be a good place for you to start.
