Grrr Malmö Aviation recruiting pilots

http://www.malmoaviation.se/o.o.i.s/2379

I called to see if those requirements were set in stone, and it seemed like they were indeed. That made me think, and I found out I didn´t like it.
One of their requirements are 500 ME time, and thats fine. BUT, that means they prefer guys with 500hrs of dual given in a BE-76 Duchess over a guy with the MCC rating, 450hrs ME time of which 200 are in a MultiCrew jet.

The reason for them not being flexible was that guys with less ME experience need more training and therefore are too expensive to employ. That sounds reasonable, until you apply the situation above. Should someone with 500hrs of small-twin experience be better suited than someone with 450hrs ME time, and about half of it in a Multicrew jet enviroment?

For me, the transition into jets was a big step. It took a lot of studying just understanding the systems. Flying was totally different, although easier in some aspects...
I just cant see why MA cant be a little flexible. Is there anyone here that disagrees with me?

Oh! And if it wasn´t clear.I´m the guy with the 450 hrs ME time ;-)

PJ,

As it is minimum requirements, I think not you should expect them to interview the pilot you mention above. Considering the times, they should have plenty of applications from pilots with hours enough, I have 1500+ multi, 2500+ total, both jet and turbo prop experience, and I cannot be the only one with hours like these. Pay might not be the best, but living in the area it sounds like a good deal. They did fire some pilots was it last year or so, they must have been rehired I guess?

Any word of how many pilots they need?

Drop - They are rehired, therefore the need for new recruitment. Panama - If you look att the requirement (500 ME) it is VERY low. TF is the first airline in Sweden to hire ( without rating requirement ) in a long time. As Drop says, there are loads of people out there applying with far more experience. They could have set the minimum at 3000 hrs total, 1000 turbine and there would still have been loads of people to select from.
500 ME is a very generous minimum in my point of view, even though I understand your point, being so close to the minimum. But you have to draw the line somewhere. If 450 ME hrs are OK then someone with 400 hrs want flexibilty, If 400 hrs are OK then why not 350? Well, you see my point....

Good luck!

Kind rgds

Arrow Minimums

They could have set the minimums at 4000 TT and 2000 FAR/JAR 25 jet and still there would be plenty to choose from.

But if I had 450 hours and half of it jet... I would go and fly a twin in Canada,US or anywhere else where rates where good for that remaining 50 hours.. Yip it's money and a shame that they have set their minimums that way. But hey thats aviation for you. Been there, done that.

It's a circle. Once you have plenty of time in big aircraft and you would like to move to another outfit and another type... Well now they want to have 500 hours in that type. How do you get that if no one gives you a break? Oh well...

I believe out of 500-600 applications, 22 were selected for interview...

Informed at the interview:

400 applicants total

200 fulfilled the criteria

22 were called for interview (this is how far I got)

They needed 6 (maybe 8) pilots

I really wanted to work for them, but apparently they liked some of the other candidates better than me.

Tyvärr,

TD

Panama Jack,

Obviously the requirements were very low set, i have 3000 hrs, ATPL, 1300 hrs cmd on turboprop (SF34). Not very impressive, i know, but I really thought that I would stand a chance. Nope.

Thats life. On the other hand, as others said before me, they are the first ones to hire non rated pilots, I have a gut feeling (for whatever that's worth...) that we will se more hiring in the not so distant future. Of course mainly rated pilots but eventually guys like you and me will get a piece of the cookie.

As for myselfe I'm just trying to keep my nose above the surface and try not to give in for the temtation to pay for a rating.

Anybody who as more info on the actual hiring at Malmo Aviation?
Who were the lucky ones and what made them lucky?
(Don't missunderstand the word lucky, I do know it's hard work behind getting a job like that )
