Gentlemen, seeing how I mer eller mindre have "a foot in both camps" perhaps I might be allowed to give my perspective on the current situation? And in the process explain a few moderator realities and clear up part of the misunderstanding that seems to be at the root of a lot of your current discontent. This forum has been such a good place to visit that it pains me to see all the negative stuff being written at the moment. Apologies for intruding on you Vikings!

• All forums need to be moderated to keep PPRuNe out of potentially fatal legal trouble.
• PPRuNe is not set up as a democracy. The owners fork out the money and they are the ones that run the (financial) risks. All of us who use PPRuNe make use of a service provided to us for free by the owners of the site.
• The Scandinavian forum has been a very good example of how well a group of intelligent and reflekterte folk can in fact moderate themselves for far and away the most part. You lot fight like mad, usually stay within the bounds of decency and sort eachother out when things go too far.
• That excellent self-moderation didn't stop the publication of the FR report in this forum. A report, true or not and confirmed on Swedish TV or not, whose anonymous publication might actually kill off PPRuNe because of legal charges being brought against the publisher (PPRuNe) by the slandered parties.
• PPRuNe has Forums Administrators, Forums Fleet Managers and Forums Moderators. Commonly known as Admins, Super Mods and Moderators. Have a look at this link if you're interested in who's who.
• Admins and Super Mods can go into any forum and moderate posts. Mere humble moderators like Hogg and myself can only moderate posts on our "own" forum. And here is the root of the whole current Scandinavian situation.
  Hogg saw the FR report on this forum.
  He knew that publishing the report could be very dangerous for PPRuNe.
  He could not just delete the report because he has no such power on this forum.
  His only possibility for getting the report off PPRuNe immediately was to midlertidig ban AngleAndAttack and LEFT BLANK.
  Because by banning people, their posts become invisible.
  They were not banned for satire, for speaking too freely or for whatever other reasons some of you have come up with. It was a question of safeguarding the website on the one hand and Hogg's technical limitations on the other!
• As soon as Hogg informed Admin and asked Admin to sort out the situation properly, both posters were re-instated while the offending posts were removed. And please remember that these things take some time. We all have a day job, and the moderating has to be fit in around it.
• Things like this will not happen when this forum gets it's own moderator. Your moderator will have the technical possibilty to moderate single posts to keep PPRuNe out of trouble and will not have to "ban" a poster just to make a single post "disappear".

Oh, and don't worry, det blir ikke meg som modererer dere. Jeg er ikke noen ordentlig Skandi og jeg har mer enn nok aa more meg med paa Jet Blast!
Hope this clears up some of the misunderstandings and mistaken assumptions.
Nobody at PPRuNe is out to put a munnkurv on you guys!!

Even if I now understand why pprune is afraid of that report, I think Ryanair's efforts to stop it just makes it worse.

Why is it even called a "report"? It is just a lousy anononymous letter.

Tror ikke det var så mye bråk her, bare litt røyk, ikke mye ild.

Det der med stemming for moderatør var mye fleip.

Akkurat som på andre forum er det litt artig å ha noe å konsentrere seg om og hisse seg litt opp over, kanskje blande seg inn og gi lyd....

Tror ikke det er stor fare for mytteri, mannskapet har roet seg og lurer på om det kasnkje er et annet emne rundt hjørne som vi bjeffe litt på..

Kan jo bare snakke for meg selv, men tror at de fleste skjønner det der med ansvar for sladder og at det er bare en mann som står frem med navn og addresse og det er Danny.
(Såvidt jeg vet har han hatt flere trusler og advokater rundt ørene før, skjønner godt at det er liten toleranse for "Slander")

AVWEB APOLOGIZES TO ARTHUR ALAN WOLK

TO OUR SUBSCRIBERS

As you know aviation attorney, Arthur Alan Wolk sued AVweb and certain
of our subscribers for libel. While we initially felt that we were
justified in our characterizations of Mr. Wolk and his activities, it
has become apparent that many of our subscribers disagree with us, and
others with whom we have consulted believe we did libel him.

One of Mr. Wolk's complaints was that we did not supervise our chat room
to prevent libelous comments about him being published by our
subscribers. We have corrected that. Another of Mr. Wolk's complaints
was that our characterizations instigated some of our subscribers to
libel him. We will no longer characterize matters in such a way as to
bring apparent discredit upon anyone.

Mr. Wolk also complained that we didn't gather the facts before
"reporting" events that concerned him on AvFlash. He is correct and in
the future we shall make certain that we see the black and white instead
of reporting on mere rumor or innuendo.
