Flight to St Moritz - LSZS - Falcon 900

I need some information to operate there, LSZS = SAMEDAN.
I've never been there. I know that's a VFR airport. But I need all information like, de-icing, hangar, coordinates to approach, stay or not to stay there, any offcial docs or videos and etc...Best place to alternate...Zurich ?

Hugs for all.

Why spend any time or money on responsible flight planning when there is this great anonynoumus rumour forum, right?

Seriously, they invested in a Falcon 900 and then they got you offering hugs on ppprune for approach coordinates....

If you don't dare to order what you need from Jeppesen (or others) and charge it to the company, just stay away.

Samedan-Ops?

@Gregbrasil
If you have never been at Samedan - which is a high elevation airport with a visual approach descending into a narrow valley (to turn a Falcon 900) and a somehow short runway depending on the condition, closely surrounded by very high mountains - and you are not proficient with winter ops and the area, I would recommend to prepare very carefully and have some options if you are not going to make it.
You will find a lot of interesting reports in BFU - BEAA - UIIA - AAIB from those unlucky pilots who tried to trick it out with smaller aircrafts then a Falcon 900.

Engadin Airport St. Moritz Airlines: News

Be prepared to significantly higher landing fees than you might expect.

Operation: be sure to be VFR, way to many cumulus granitus lurking. If the weather is nice, its stunning. WX bad, go some place else.

ALTN: LSZA (Althenrhein, check runway requirements) whichs iss 177km by car (100km of these 177 are motorway) or Zürich (220km with 95k motorway, but you´ll have to go through busy Zurich or slightly shorter via Uster but with less motorway). Other possiblity would be Bergamo, the drive is only 155km but along Lago di Como probably a nightmare...

Stay if you can, if you`re into skiing you´ll find great slopes. Great food, nice people. Expensive (Switzerland)

Matriks: What a sour non useful reply, I'm sure they have all the printed data they want, and are now looking for additional info from someone who have been there, and trying to use this forum for something positive......... skam deg

Hi there

This link should provide you with some useful info for Samedan Airport.
It's a beautiful decent/approach, but should be meticolously Planned as to avoid surprizes. Enjoy the flight, and the stay if you're so lucky.

Samedan briefing

There is a gentleman in Vianna that has put together a very good briefing for Samedan. Home | is his website. Ask if you can buy a copy of the Samedan briefing from him. It is not listed on his webpage, but I know he has one.

LSZA is not a very good alternate. LSZA - Lugano has a special airport autorization requirement and a MDA of 3100 feet for the LOC/DME 01 with circling to 19. There is only an IGS approach straight in 01 with a MDA of 2100 ft if I remember correctly. Approach angle is 6.65 degrees and requires authorization level c (Lots of paperwork). A better alternate I'd guess would be LIME - Bergamo, or an airport north of the area; Luzern ?

Since we're on the topic of St. Morritz:
How would you go about doing an approach there IFR ?

I was asked yesterday if one could fly there IFR. My answer was yes, but with a serious weather considerations being a VFR airport. This because of the high mountains which results in high MORA altitudes. I noticed there are a few RNAV holding patterns defined just south of the airport, but descending to MORA wich is 15600 feet, makes it necessary to have a ceiling of at least 10000 feet ? (Airport elevation = 5600 ') before commencing the visual approach. How many days during winter does this occur ?

Is there any other way ?

LSZA is a good alternative. However, an earlier poster has given you a bit of a bum steer with regard to getting to St Moritz from Altenrhein. The distance is indeed around 170 km, but with around 110 km being on motorway or express highways. There are no cities to traverse. Should take you about just 2 hours.

Temp. at Samedan

Tonight the Temp was -31.7C at the airport! Would be a good idea to dump the water and remove all bottles from the aircraft.
