Sweden's new immigration policy

I just heard that Sweden is opening its immigration policy. I know the current economy is tough but if it gets better there may be aviation jobs available. I currently hold an FAA ATP(A) and a CPL(H) IR(H). Most of my 4,000 hours are in FW, 2,000 are in Mutli-crew jet, HS-125 and Lear Jet I am currently involved if a JAA ATPL(H) distance learning course. I believe I can get both a JAR ATPL (A) and (H) and the end of studies and flight training. I’m also a trained IT person that can program in multiple computer languages. I have also studied a little bit the Norwegian language, I assume it is similar to Swedish.

Any suggestions or comments?

The Swedish government is launching immigration reform. I think they are worried about their aging population and need people to do work. There's an article about it in yesterday's Wall Street Journal. I believe each employer can make a determination if they need someone from outside the EU. Work permits will be in 2 year stints, renewable for another 2 years and then you can go for permanent residency. Your spouse will have equal access to the labor market too!

er... what? The best word to describe the Swedish market would be SATURATED and if you do find a job it's probably going to last 2-3 years before you have to find yourself a new one. Sweden is not one of the places to go looking for a stable aviation career my friend. Add to that the generally unimpressive salaries and the 2nd highest level of taxation and you have yourself a reason or two to head elsewhere

Being from Scandinavia myself, I very much doubt you will see pilot jobs available for non EU people - there is not a lack of qualified pilots within the EU.

Maybe if you are a doctor, engineer etc. you might have a chance - however Sweden are not able to do just as they wish anymore, as they are members of EU and Schengen.

Probably same strict rules as if anyone wants to go and work in the USA, pilots is a definate no go area, they will only accept you if you have a higher degree, doctor, nurse, teacher, engineer etc. - however pilots will not fall under this category.

Jobs in EU, must first be offered to EU citizens, if they still lack qualified personell then they are allowed to employ non EU personell.
As most people know, there is no lack of qualified pilots in europe at the moment. So work permit for non EU pilots, not a chance!
