Westair lifestyle?

Hi

Could anyone help by giving me some information on Westair? I'd like to know about the working lifestyle and how the company treats its employees. Also the pay and conditions if anyone knows.

I'm a UK based turbo-prop cargo pilot looking for a change of scene and am trying to find out all I can.

Thnaks, Parcelpup!

Spent a few years flying with West Air. You generally work a monday through friday roster with weekend off, this is especially true for thet European rosters. If you are to do flights in Sweden, then you will probably get one or two weekends on every month.
When I started with the company, it was quite nice with a pleasant work atmosphere between collegues and with management. Now the union has threaten with work actions as managment is doing everything they can to trash all union contracts and any employee benefits.

If you have a turbo-prop job in the UK, then keep it as almost anything is better then working at West Air. I got some good work experience working there which lead me to my current employment, but I would never go back. I am doing everything that I can to help my former collegues to find new employment away from West Air.

Starting salaries are for Captain ~3000€/month and F/O ~2000€ with no flight pay, and depending where you are employed a per diem for over night. All figures before tax.

Hope that this gives you some insight into West Air.

P.S. I am not a disgruntled former employee. I am a very happy former employee that found a much better job elsewhere.

BlueVikingFlyer,
are sure about the starting salaries ?
I just applied, but that would cut my income nearly into half...(Capt)

The starting salaries quoted are for the Swedish operation.
If you have applied for the Lux operation they are a bit higher. Not by any enormous amount. If I remember correctly the Captains salaries were in the region of 4000-4500€ for the Lux operation. I will try to contact a few former West Air Lux pilots to inquiry about the salaries, but I thinks that I am fairly close.
They are very desperate for current pilots, so you might be able to negotiate a better starting salary as it is right now.

Godd Luck

I guess thats the problem with them, different contracts depending on where you fly. Rumours say that they're even trying to make new contracts for the pilots hiring now, meaning earning less.

West Air seems to be the company flying for FEDEX paying their pilots the least. Go figure.

Number of crews required?

Whatever you do. Think everything through twice before you say yes to anything at westair. They eat you up!
I´ve been with the company for 5 years, just left. It was 5 years too much.
There have been some roumors telling that there are people paying for the ATP and then get a work at westair.
I sincerely hope not - pay for a 737 or something else instead. Working night, flying turboprop with a complete waste of company is not what you normally pay for - is it?

The management is a complete disaster with no sence of normal thinking. The worst I ever experienced when it comes to all sorts of business. The total absence of airline-knowledge, total lack of taking care of your employees, total lack of common sence.
Your not thinking if the company will go down - it is a matter of when!
