At the Bur Dubai The Music Room at Majestic Hotel has a decent live band and is a bit more laid back than The Mariners Club at Seaview Hotel which although it has arguably the best in house band in the City but is a bit of a meat market.

Down at the Marina the Habtoor Grand has a decent Sports Bar, The Underground. Budha Bar in Grosvenor Hotel is a bit more upmarket and somewhere a bit more random is Girders Scottish Bar in The Ocean View Hotel It has a reasonable live band, fair selection of beers and sometimes even their in house brew/McEwans for 11dhs a pint.

Lots of bars/clubs/restaurants at Madinat Jumeirah and in the cooler weather a nice outdoor bar on the third floor of the Belgian Beer cafe at Millenium Hotel Tecom.

Tower Ranger - agree with you on both points, the Mariners house band is the best but the place is a bit rough.Mobbed with hookers, mainly Chinese last time I was there. The only place in Dubai I witnessed a good old fashioned bar brawl!

bcgallacher, you obviously never went to the (in)famous Rattlesnake bar at the back of the Metropolitan! Those looking for a bit of "female company" and/or a punch up rarely left disappointed....

True - was never in the Rattlesnake - have vague memories being in some place full of huge blonde Russian women.Scared the hell out of me. The band in The Music Room originally played in the York Hotel -That really was a meat market - gave multiculturalism a whole new meaning!

Sadly or perhaps good riddance to but the rattlesnake and indeed the whole Metropolitan hotel were bulldozed a while back and are no more.

As for the Marines club, it's a popular place with surely the best band in the city and while the club itself is not in the best shape, it did have a small makeover and lick of paint during the Ramadan recess so looking better. 100 dhs entry over weekend which entitles you to two drinks. As for the company, you don't have to involve yourself, just say no.

There used to be a Filippino music room above Rock Bottom .called Rockies with some good bands and some gorgeous Fillipina singers.Filipino food available and it was also possible to find a friend(so I was told).Rock Bottom had a fairly tame European band at one time -been about 3 years since I was in there. You could get a decent steak at a reasonable price also.
If you visit any of the places that have been mentioned in answer to your original question give us some feedback.

There's a predominantly English band at The Music Room and the bands at Nel Gwynes and Girders in the Marina are both English.
There are two Rovk Bottoms now, the Bur Dubai branch has been joined by a branch in Tecom at the Ramee Rose Hotel.

Go to the Sea view hotel in Bur DXB, near rolla street.
Walk through the lobby, in the back is what called the mariner bar.
Go upstairs, there is a cover charge, if you tell them you are with Harley DXb
you may not have to pay, its cheap anyway.
They probably have the best Filipino band.
Really good playing 70 and 80 rock.
Many girls there about 10 to one ratio, you will enjoy, chinese, filipina. russian,
Worked there 3 years, thats the best, after 10 is the best time.
