Stayed in the Sofitel during the 2007/8 Hadj. Good location, overlooking the sea and a short walk into the main centre. Has a tennis court. Seem to remember a tiny bar in the street next to the hotel, with reasonably priced beer . Standard Sofitel, not to flash but rooms clean enough, if a little tired, this is West Africa though! Have fun!

Watch out for the `nightfighters`;don`t wear `bling`;keep together, not solo; check room safe for `default 0000/1111/etc;carry only cash you can afford to lose; don`t change to lots of local currency-can`t change it back;don`t lose sight of yr credit card-ever; give the man who greets you a bag of coffee/sugar,same for fuel, garbage, guard, etc.Disinsecticide ? Have plenty of small $ notes as change is `hard to find`.....Maybe it`s changed, maybe not;careful pre-flight,snakes,spiders,asylum seekers....Triple copies of paperwork...
No ice in drinks...some Immodium...

Had a great time there. short walk from hotel mentioned on a pier overlooking the beach is a restaurant owned by french former diver, you forget where you are once inside........ if you have time go on the ferry to Goree island. Beware muggers and take plenty of deet.

We stayed at the Terrou-Bi.

The hotel was just great (4-5 stars in European standard), food was good (maybe not the cheapest), you have a casino, a private beach, fishing activities if you are staying a bit longer, and it is located in safe and quiet area.

If I ever have to stop in Dakar again, this will be my choice.

Dakar Pubs

The Meridien is good, but not cheap, and has a good little bar with plenty of jazz provided by local musos, and if you're there during the Wrestling Championships it's certainly an interesting place. 2nd choice, and cheaper, is the Novotel, and if you ask for a high room overlooking the oggin on a good day you could see NY if you were lucky! Plenty of good restaurants also.

To update:
We stayed at the Lagon 2 no choice, on the seafront no beach or pool but relaxed with not bad food, has wifi throughout. Its opposite the French embassy. The restaurant mentioned before is probably the Lagon 1 very good food.

Next stop was Abidjan in the Pullman, not bad at all food good local beer not so. Wifi throughout as well.
