Read the book, Asher does have a position from the start of the book but the programme didn't really reflect the book too well. If he didn't have a position then he wouldn't have written the book and of course the book was written after the trip and the research therefore it would be difficult not to have a viewpoint.
Having been in a shooting situation I can assure those who haven't that it is as much luck as judgement to hit someone when they are trying to blow your fat head off as well. The real world is not scripted by Audey Murphy. Look at the total land casualties caused by the British Army with several thousand trained infantry in the Falklands then compare it with the claim of 250 casualties caused by eight guys from B20 who by their own admission were in no state to even control some of their body finctions within 12 hours of the do do hitting the fan. If they had been carrying 1,000 rounds each then they would still have had an extraordinary hit rate. Me smell a rat, but for the money these guys made I would lie through my teeth and camp the whole thing up as well. |
Airbreak - the man hasn't exactly been shy of publicity - and his picture is on the back page of his latest book. As for OPSEC - I don't think it would take the resources of the CIA to find him!

Just got around to watching the prog. I think Asher has a lot of credibility, even allowing a certain 'agenda'.
Let's face it, if two-zero had really slotted all those Iraqis, I doubt they'd have survived capture. McNab's book was a bloody good read, and that's all. Like Hollywood, 'based on a true story' is a zillion clicks from 'a true story'. Edit for spellin |
If the West should decide at some future time to go back into Iraq I certainly wouldn't want to be in a SF team, not now that the nature of much of their equipment and their methods have been placed in the public domain.
Even an Iraqi should be able to work out the difference between a SF soldier and a straight forward man from the rest of the Army, thanks to all the information that he has now been given by the first two books by McNab and Ryan respectively. |
