Wasn't there a confirmed A2A kill by a jet that targeted a hovering chopper with cluster munitions? Can't remember the conflict?

Watching the Al Jazzera coverage and once the skies are dark, you can hear a piston engined aircraft in the background. What would that be?

Potentially a drone.

funniest HUD video from long ago was a Hip kill by a Viper (from early 80's).....the Viper made two gun passes and the helo dude was great evading a good firing geometry by the Viper pilot..so after two passes our video starts again with the missile symbology, then lock and then slave the Aim-9 and great tone and then.......

Names and places and countries for your guess

Senior U.S. Defense Officials have stated that so far the military aid that Israel has received from the United States consists of 500 GBU-39/B Small-Diameter Bombs with another 500 currently en-route and roughly 100,000 rounds of 7.62×51mm.

Aid shipments are expected to Increase in size and frequency over the coming weeks.

Golly Gee....100,000 rounds of 7.62 ammo....so much?

Perhaps there might be a market for this 7.62 weapon that would work wonders on those powered paraglider assault craft.

That would take care of whatever animal it is that craps on my lawn.

A paraglider is an easy kill for a helicopter - just collapse the canopy with downwash. No need to waste FJ assets, just have some helo patrols along the border.

As for FJ finding it difficult to take down a helo - that's only true if you are hiding behind hard cover, otherwise anything with a sensor will see and kill you.

I was on one of the first QHTI (heli tactics instructor) courses in the UK in the late 80s, we went head to head with Lightnings who did a great job but could be forced into a head to head which they didn't like due to the guns being mounted slightly nose up requiring a dive to engage a lower target.

Then, while we were applauding ourselves an F15 called up on the radio from a CAP 15 miles away 'Puma heading 240 down the valley - you're dead' as he had radar lock on us and we didn't even know he was there.

Fighter affil in the Falklands (way past the conflict) showed terrain masking was only effective against a single FJ and as soon as there was more than one you were stuffed.

This summer I watched 2 Typhoons working with a Wildcat near our home. They seemed to be all over it.

First confirmed IDF aircraft loss.

Shortly before the start of the Hamas attack, a CH-53D Sea Stallion (Yasur) transport helicopter with several paratroopers on board arrived in the Gaza Strip area.

Due to a malfunction, the helicopter made an emergency landing at Kibbutz Beeri.

After the attack began, Hamas militants were able to strike the helicopter with a guided missile, which led to its complete destruction.

Valid question. My take, peace dividend in a good neighborhood vs perpetual war stance with shady neighbors.

Where on earth do you get a figure of a thousand from! You mixing up sorties with aircraft inventory numbers?

I guess if France was routinely firing rockets at London and sending armed men across the Channel to kill civilians in Kent then we would commit more resources to defence. The West has become soft and complacent in its regard to that oft quoted ‘first priority of government’, arguably so too had Israel who were content to hide behind their fence, the difference being that when the inevitable attack came they are in a position to do something about it. The UK maintains a fig leaf of capability whilst having given away much of our ammunition to Ukraine.

Fortunately we don’t currently face an obvious assailant to our country (but we have several overseas territories at potentially greater threat…) except perhaps a missile threat from Russia in which case we can do our bit to annihilate the globe in a nuclear war.

Some Israeli residents are asking why the IDF was otherwise occupied protecting 'illegal' settlements in the West Bank rather than patrolling the legal areas of Israel near Gaza..........

There are no innocent parties to this conflict - both Palestinians and Israelis have elected leaders with no interest in peace or the 2-state solution.

A Voyager squawking suggest a couple of Typhoon non-squawking as a defensive fighter cover, as now given when on station in the Black Sea.

A British RC-135 ‘Rivet Joint’ electronic surveillance aircraft has conducted a patrol near #Israel, the #Gaza Strip and #Lebanon today. Visible to the west of the RC-135 are British Voyager tanker/transport aircraft.

GB situation compares with the situation of Japan, i.e. Russia to the north and west, holding onto the Kuriles, muttering about taking Hokkaido, and sending aircraft patrols to regularly test Japanese reactions. Then there’s the DPRK just to the west gone nuclear and constantly threatening to destroy Japan and its US bases. Southwest is the central mass of China, sending ships and aircraft to test Japan’s reactions and defensive preparedness around her southern islands. Taiwan lies due south, counting on help if and when China decides to try to take Taiwan by force. No EU collectivity and no NATO back-up leaves them with little choice but to stay armed and ready for anything, despite US assurances.
