TOP GUN : Inside the RAF (where did it go?)
Am I missing the obvious, a thousand apologies if I am, but what happened to the original thread?
Has it been moved? Has it been merged? On my computer it has vanished? I can't find it. |

Panic ye not. It was essentially a load of bollocks about a load of bollocks.

Interesting how the last post I made was about lineys and their jovial role in the programme and then I read the F35 Lost thread's SI. Being a Liney is a serious business it would seem. Ah well, I am sure abnormal service will resume. post bank holiday. |
I started the thread and I deleted it because it had become an unpleasant exchange of insults.

Well I’ll be looking forward to the next episode.

Episode 2:
SummaryJet pilot Ben faces a life-or-death decision over Syria. And RAF Lossiemouth's station warrant officer prepares for one of the biggest events on the military calendar. |
In fairness, the biggest problem is all of the hyperbole in the voice over. The guys and gals are only doing what they are paid to do. It is the utter twaddle overlaid onto it which is problematic.

As for life-or-death decisions: Technically you could argue that we're faced with life-or-death decisions every time we fly an aircraft, it's just a matter of degree... |

I'm looking forward to the "outtakes" programme! |

If that's what gets them the viewing figures they need... I'd rather they make these programmes with an over-dramatic voiceover, than not make them at all.

Not hard on this forum. It is the RAF of the 2020s. Not the RAF of the 1940's, 1950's, The V bomber force, the 1980s, the 1990's nor the 2000's when I left after 25 years in. Is it the RAF I served in when I left? No. Is it the RAF I joined almost 40 years ago? No. Do I shout against it like Victor Meldrew? No.

Agree completely. Those serving today deserve the same respect we would have wanted. It is also unfair to judge individuals on the evidence of a heavily edited TV programme. We have no idea which scenes are natural and which have been staged for the cameras. Looking forward to tonight's episode.

Half way through episode 2 and I think this is showing today’s Royal Air Force in a very good light.

Wondering. You ever loaded a rifle or unloaded one with live ammunition and may have in the intervining time may have had to use such a weapon? Was a day to day thing on doing SSGF in late 80s BFG and hot ops later on in the 2000s.
