Of course the fact that UAE, a key US partner already has them for a couple of years and US tech will already have gone over them seems to get overlooked.

Think this is in keeping with US intelligence viewpoint for last 25 years, they have shelled out many $$$ to acqure SAMs, part of them and other equipment, not to study but to remove them from the open market. This feels exactly like that scenario.

Theres a difference between getting a chance to walk around one and get a look and getting one that you can pull apart down to nuts and bolt and look at every piece of code and every chip at an a microscopic level

You mean you don't think that at least one, maybe more, fully working model has not been in US hands for a long time. Bit remiss of working with an Ally if that hasn't happened within months of the 1st batch arriving.

Oman / Jordan / Algeria are all reputed to have splashed out as well as UAE so that is UK/US/France/Israel all getting a good look and taking the apart. Give Intelligence service some credit.

I'd tend to agree but if they went into the trouble of flying a C17 to repatriate it I guess they saw some value (instead of simply destroying it).

Not to mention that should said pieces be capable of being launched, the responsibility for any "collateral" damage could naturally fall on the Russians. Equally, it could be a plant.

Salute!

Don't forget there's the Nellis ranges where we fly Red Flag and do other things, and they can always use actual "threat" systems. Back in the day I saw several threats on my RHAW that were not Soviet bloc systems. Some really surprised me, but then we practiced sometimes with other country assets in the air and on the ground, most common were the Canadians and NATO folks.

Around here, the F-35's RHAW is so good that it discards cheap threat simulators and just presents the "real" ones on your display.

Perhaps this might end up at the petting zoo at Nellis, if it still exists.

Salute!

Well, West, I actually got to sit in a Flogger back in early 80's in the Zoo.

The most surprising thing to me at those Red Flags was the possiblity of strange adversary planes, as well as those "friendly" RHAW warnings.
