Rejoiners Course
Anyone got any gen on the content/programme for the Halton rejoiners/transferrees course? |
My understanding from a few friends who have been through it recently is that its not *too* painful. The worst part was trying to help the nice chap in clothing stores understand that Sqn Ldrs are not Phase 1 recruits and do not expect to be treated as such....
A direct quote from a friend "My expectations were pretty low, but it did meet them". Overall not as bad as it could be but there is inevitable faff and eye-rolling required after certain briefs. |
Aah, escaped that when I rejoined in 1980 - phone conversation with Barnsworth, "3 weeks time or 7 weeks time", turned up at the Towers on the appointed day, met by my College batman of 15 years earlier (Pop Amies) signed on the dotted line and started the Admin (Sec) Course

I'm booked in later this year. I have spoken to the course staff and the programme is flexible, depending on the course member's requirements. I have been liaising with kitting staff and they have been outstanding so far, treating me very well (ex Sqn Ldr). Expect kitting, fitness test, attestation, GDT, service knowledge updates as a minimum. Its compulsory so just smile and wave boys, smile and wave |
I take it that's with the Reserves, JT?

Second response this time - not bad. |
Do rejoiners get the full salary or are there X-factor deductions for not being mobile etc for the first couple of years?
|
Depends on the terms of rejoining.
Any of the rejoiners posts advertised currently are deployable, so full salary, full x-factor. FTRS posts are different. |
I’m joining full time reserve, limited commitment. Deplorable for short periods, reduced X factor. Some restrictions on medical and dental cover, different pension deal, but overall not too bad. You can get no deployment posts and there are vacancies for pilots!! Potential for up to age 65. Winner, |

Good luck to you all on your second bite at the apple. only chap I knew rejoin was thirty odd years ago so not relevant, he did reissue of kit, jabs update and requalified on the musket, then a practical trade test, as he had spent 10 years doing skin repairs previously and the reason he left, he knocked to 2 week trade test job out in a day or so and was then posted back to a Sqn. |
When I did SERE at Cranwell, I was asked when I had stopped serving in the RNZAF. Two weeks ago...
...cue trip to PEd section and an expedition to Norway for a month and back in time for the graduation. |
Ha! Deplorable! typo of course. My stuff might be FTRS but it’s the same rejoining course that the original post asked about. It’s a few days of your life, doesn’t appear too stressful, no problems!! |

This thread is probably past its prime, but I did the TaRC in January:
Day 1: AM: Welcome brief, Admin, PM: Attestation Day 2: AM: Kit Issue, PM: Fitness test, GSR 'famil' Day 3: AM: SA-80 re-famil*, PM: Security brief, Jabs parade Day 4: MOD1 Day 5: AM: Equality & Diversity brief, PM: brief session of Human Factors training, 14:00: Home for the weekend Day 6: AM: Fire Section training and final admin, PM: Done & dusted - Foxtrot Oscar Those crossing over to the RAF from the Army, Navy & Marines had to stay 'til Wednesday (day 8) for other briefs; those who were out of the RAF <5 years finished Friday lunchtime. *When I say SA-80 re-famil it was an introduction for me, having trained on the SLR. Caused a bit of a stir with the Regiment and I wasn't allowed to partake in MOD1 (ooh, shame!) |
