Hope that’s still the case. Did two different SERE courses in Canada a few years ago and hoping they accept that past training as well.

Will be at Halton for the TaRC in October.

Appreciate the info here.

No, I’m on the course following. Enjoy and good luck with the transfer.

I rejoined in 1989, one day at RAFC then OCU groundschool the next day. Turned out to be the worst move of my life but thats another story completely !

I’ve been out of the RAF for 12 years and going back in (hopefully) as a part-time reservist. I pushed back on the full Phase 1 training and looks like I’m being offered TaRC. Appreciate any feedback from those on the course late 2019, before I agree to do it. Also, what’s MOD1? Is it some kind of field exercise? Cheers.

MOD1 = CCS for those of a certain vintage... :) Same old First-Aid, Respirator Drills 'check' (got to use up those CS tablets somehow) and some shooting (live or lasery thing depending on your shooting stick of choice). No exam which is lucky as apparently the old book you used to get issued is no longer available...

The course is quite relaxed and you won’t have any issues. MOD1 at TaRC is as described above, except there is no live CS gas training currently. Initial kit issue, Weapons handling, SAT trainer rifle shoot, respirator drills, power point/presentations and other admin related items. Overall, just a quick tick in the box before you move on to the next phase.

If he's been out for 12 years, GDT may be a more familiar term!

It's a short-day course and depending upon where you do it, it can be relatively painless too.

Lord Riding 16th Dec 2019 19:51

That all sounds good - thanks chaps. I think I can cope with a bit of GDT and the obligatory equality and diversity training; it’s the standing by your beds bull**** that I’d struggle with. Wouldn’t be able to stop myself having a few words with the DI!
