Prince Harry can't fly helicopters (Labour Party Conference)

"Prince Harry can't fly helicopters so they made him a copilot to just sit there and go vroom vroom" (Latest from Labour Party Conference; Rt Hon Emma Dent Coad MP).

At least it's not quite as offensive as the disabled soldier wheelchair dolls which were displayed at the previous Labour Conference

Legalapproach 27th Sep 2017 09:41

She's not a Rt Hon - denotes member of the Privy Council

Wander00 27th Sep 2017 10:04

Sounds a Rt Charlie though

charliegolf 27th Sep 2017 10:08

Ah, the odious bint from the Grenfell management thingy whose fault it wasn't at all in the slightest when she was on it, but as a new MP is happy to run off at the mouth about the nasty Tory council. Cnut.

CG

PS: I know Harry would be miles above this, but wouldn't it be great if he sued her for slander?

son of brommers 27th Sep 2017 10:17

"Prince Harry can't fly helicopters so they made him a copilot to just sit there and go vroom vroom"
The fake news corollary:
"Labour can't fly a country so they made them opposition to just sit there and go blah blah"

ericferret 27th Sep 2017 11:07

I find this really depressing. That the great British public voted this idiot into parliament gives me little hope for the future. Brexit is the least of our problems.

Tashengurt 27th Sep 2017 11:24

Apparently someone sits beside him and does the flying.
Didn't really do her research did she?

Indeed. Someone else sat.BEHIND him, and did the flying.

Blacksheep 27th Sep 2017 12:16

I suppose they remove the collective and cyclic controls from the forward cockpit when he's flying then? The ones in the rear are enough.

treadigraph 27th Sep 2017 12:19

What a thoroughly unpleasant woman.

Labour MP accuses Prince Philip of cheating on the Queen and belittles Harry's military service

glad rag 27th Sep 2017 12:31

It's like they are out bidding each other to prostrate themselves at the feet of momentum.

Cazalet33 27th Sep 2017 12:36

Is Dent Coad an anagram?

BEagle 27th Sep 2017 12:38

That woman, along with several other Liarbor MPs, was probably voted in purely as a protest vote after Cameron's stupid plebiscite and cowardly exit...

Making the statements as strongly as she has about Prince Henry of Wales requires her to make an unequivocal public apology for her spiteful slander. Comrade Corbychev should insist on it, if he has any shred of decency.

Martin the Martian 27th Sep 2017 12:50

Well, if she makes enough noise about other things perhaps nobody will notice she was a board member of the Kensington and Chelsea Tenancy Management Organisation when they passed the cladding that caused Grenfell to go up like a roman candle.

Parliamentary majority of 20, eh? Don't make too much noise, pet.

Melchett01 27th Sep 2017 12:57

Seems such a charming lady, I'm sure her majority of 20 will increase next time round.

She claims what she said was all about opening up debate about the Royal Family. If I were her, I'd keep my head down and mouth shut in case anybody wanted to look into her background and open up debate. For example, her criticism of the awful Grenfell fire tragedy, describing as 'entirely preventable'. I wonder what she did to prevent it during the time she was on the council appointed Tenant Management Organisation that managed council accommodation in Kensington and which seemingly reviewed and missed the significance of the cladding being procured and installed on their own accommodation. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/poli...-a3566661.html

Seems a fairly unpleasant character all in all, with little value to add to anything she touches or comments on.

Only for professional academic who appears never to have done a real days work in her life.

Wander00 27th Sep 2017 13:28

that's a Corbynista for you

Arclite01 27th Sep 2017 13:34

Actually, regardless of your views on the Monarchy (and there are several in my household alone), I think this Lady (I use the word very loosely) is on very thin ice. I believe that Price Harry is both liked and respected across a large cross-section of society of all age groups and social classes for both his Military and non-Military activities.

She might have shot herself badly in the foot here. If I was the Tories I would be making a lot of capital out of this.

I hope she gets her facts right and apologises........... tout suite.

No chance there then BEags old fruit.

Rotate too late 27th Sep 2017 15:13

Bloody hard course and he has my utmost respect for juggling royal duties and learning to fly the beast.....100% a gun pilot.
She, however is 100% a f@#&tard.

The Old Fat One 27th Sep 2017 15:58

Outrage aside, this is good news. There are plenty of dumbarses in politics - in all parties. And by dumb, I mean not top drawer in old IQ department. Many of them could not become a top lawyer, a fast jet pilot, a consultant surgeon, etc etc, because they just don't have the nous.

I realise I am generalizsing ofc, and that there are some very talented, high achieving intellectually gifted MPs as well...I would opine they are perhaps trending towards the minority in the modern era.

And one characteristic of blockheads in general is the way they react to short term success - arrogance, smugness, complacency etc. Watching clips of the labour party conference this week I was struck as too how much of that is going on...all sorts of random crap the Macdonald bloke for example, yeah my policies might cost the British economy billions...so what, who cares.

The British public absolutely hate this sort of smug complacent arrogance. Theresa May just discovered that...so did Kinnock in the early nineties.

Bring it on...they'll soon find out how that approach works for them at the ballot box.

She might have shot herself badly in the foot here.
so she might qualify for a place the the Invictus games and could apologise to Prince Harry in person;)

Professional academic is a rather generous description there Not a Boffin. I'm not entirely sure whether History of Design would be included on a list of rigorous academic subjects and her aborted PhD in Spanish architecture during the Franco era sounds a bit more like a pet project than a useful academic contribution to life. On the basis that she has since come out to defend her statement that, paraphrasing, 'she was told it as an absolute fact, she just can't prove it', I don't think her level of academic attainment includes much rigorous analysis.

Fonsini 27th Sep 2017 18:04

There were perhaps moments when it would have been wise to just let his father sit in the co-pilot seat and go "vroom, vroom", but Harry has done nothing other than earn respect for his military service.

NutLoose 27th Sep 2017 18:12

From Wikipedia (not the most definitive source, but I was in a hurry)... "She served as a council-appointed board member of Kensington and Chelsea TMO, the tenant management organisation which manages the council's housing stock, from 27 June 2008 to 31 October 2012.[10][11][12] In 2013/4 she was a member of the council's Housing and Property Scrutiny Committee.[13][14] She has been a member of the council's Planning Applications Committee since May 2013, and a member of the main Planning Committee since June 2014.[15] She is a member of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority.[16]"...

Based on these appointments and dates, I would be surprised if the Grenfell job approval didn't have her name all over it.

The Grenfell planning application was submitted on 5 Sep 2012, seemingly whilst Dent Coad was in post on the Tenant Management Committee. It was later withdrawn and resubmitted before being finally approved in December 2014 when she was a member of the Main Planning Committee. If she was so concerned she could have objected at multiple stages along the planning route.

https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/planning/sea...abs-planning-2

She has very little room to criticise anybody who has served their country on operations and continues to do so out of uniform. Wouldn't it be a shame if the media ran with that line of inquiry into who exactly is representing the good folk of Kensington & Chelsea on the public purse. A clear cut case of limited VFM if ever there was one.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment in this thread I fear this is a distinct possibility given the current state of the Conservative party!

Funny how everybody else paid the price for that . . . bit like his carry on during his marriage. What a disgrace.

His sons however are an absolute credit to their mother. This Labour MP is also a disgrace, but it seems that's what they want.

Expecting anything 'decent' to be uttered by Labour is like expecting the media to tell the truth.

Hangarshuffle 27th Sep 2017 21:56

I knew the pprune outrage bus would be taking off on this...caught it just in time.
(a) She 's got the story from the rumour that Harry actually doesn't fly Apache. Or didn't. He was always in the front as the weapons operator. Nothing really wrong with doing either job IMHO, but its a story that's gone around for a while and may be true, or may be false....did he fly it or in it? its not rocket science. Y or N?
(b) How she is a disgrace?....she's an MP. They're all gob****es paid and elected to ask awkward questions and more.... among other things... right now ppruuners may be amazed to learn not everybody in our lovely land loves everything about Britain and how it works for some and not others. Including the Royal family. Expect more.
(c) Harrys recent work, and his whole attitude/body language and dialogue with the public and proles is absolutely fantastic- he is a true credit to himself, regardless of what he flew or did. HS.

The B Word 27th Sep 2017 22:28

did he fly it or in it?
Oh dear HS, you really have no idea about 2-seat operational aircraft do you? :ugh:

Rotate too late 27th Sep 2017 22:36

I served in 3 Regt with him, it’s utter bollocks. Such uninformed nonsense is not what I expect from an elected member of parliament, what else is she completely wrong about?
Jesus people love spouting ****e.

Tankertrashnav 27th Sep 2017 22:49

Last time I saw a picture of Harry in uniform he was wearing AAC pilot's wings. Should clear that one up.

The Old Fat One 27th Sep 2017 22:52

HS

I'm the first to guffaw at the pprune outrage bus, but on this occasion I think that it is by the by. Whether he flew it, or in it, or under it, or on it, is completely 100% irrelevant.

The daft **** just very publicly insulted one of the most popular royals in a country that is light years away from republicanism.

She's a one trick pony and if he (JC) is relying on her to win one of his seats in 2002 he is up s**t creek in a barbed wire canoe.

tartare 27th Sep 2017 23:37

"Somebody else will tell me whether or not that's true but I've been told that's an absolute fact that somebody sits beside him and drives the helicopters for him."

Oh FFS.. can I jump on the departing outrage bus?
Harry's a fine chap.
What a god awful old school trotsky-ite she is; who can't even get her basic facts straight.

But it doesn't for those who wish to believe this sort of thing. They will metaphorically tap the side of their nose and say 'Ah, but he was given the wings to make it look like he qualified as a pilot, when he actually got them for show because he's a prince.'

The same thing happened when he did his first tour in Afghanistan - suggestions that while it was claimed that he was a Forward Air Controller, he had - in fact - had to send his laundry forward; that he'd been in a tank [sic] surrounded by massed armour to ensure that his tank [sic] wasn't hit by anything; that he was protected by SAS bodyguards (whose number exceeded that of the ration strength of the regiment in one version of this claim).

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Ms Dent Coad, or a supporter of her views, isn't on the Jeremy Vine show repeating this guff at some point in the next day or so, with a recently-retired senior officer being invited on to explain why it's utter tosh being regularly interrupted by Vine to create the impression that the senior officer is part of the conspiracy...

But she didn't ask the question did she, she made an assertion that wasn't true. If she had asked the question she would have known the facts.
