Kitbag, well done, that nails it.

Now tell us what they do with it and where it is displayed.

Kitbag 29th Apr 2016 11:58

Dunno, I'm a techie, not an engineer. Best person to ask is that bloke with a brain the size of a planet; Julian Young, I think he was the driving force behind it (may not be though)

Pontius Navigator 29th Apr 2016 12:23

Ah, introduced to universal acclaim and issued to all ranks to wear on their coveralls. Oil resistant I presume.

MPN11 29th Apr 2016 18:58

PN ... what I said at Post #22, really, but without a pretty picture ;)

HQ Military Air Traffic Operations (HQ MATO) also had a badge, but Google is preventing me from finding an example. It was used by several Area Radar Units until they acquired their own badges. Never had one for ATC as a Branch, though, or for individual Towers [being subordinate to the Station]. I always fancied being OC 3216 ATC Sqn [no, not THAT ATC]. ;)

Does anyone else think what a waste of money in a time when there are cutbacks all round.
And where will it end, when the RAF are reduced to wearing uniforms plastered in badges that would not look out of place in some African backwater?.

NutLoose 29th Apr 2016 19:18

You could adapt the wriggly trade one for everyone,

For scribblies a clenched hand holding a quill
For engineers a clenched fist holding a spanner
For catering a clench fist holding a fork
For PTI a clench fist holding a dumbell
For regiment a clench holding a bayonet.

Etc

Hello? Does anyone here read before posting?

This is NOT a uniform badge.

It is an Heraldic Badge. Simples.

Carry on enjoying the banter. :D

Ju-Ju-Babe may have a v. large brain but that doesn't make him right all the time.

Tankertrashnav 29th Apr 2016 22:21

Thanks kitbag - that certainly answers my question.

P-N - I'd forgotten about the Marine Branch, did they have a branch badge, as opposed to the ASR sleeve badge some of them wore?

yes, nothing to stop them being used as so, for a motto perhaps "words not deeds"... nice play on others :)

Pontius Navigator 30th Apr 2016 05:55

TTN, it would appear so. Look here:

As it is on the proper shield it looks official. The RAF Police too I see.

TBT

An alternative motto: 'Non dicit in Computer'

Serious for once:

Crossed quills over a sword with a tablet below

Calamus gladio fortior

E-Spy 30th Apr 2016 12:02

Fixed your spelling for you, PN

Calamitatis gladio fortior

Pontius Navigator 30th Apr 2016 15:00

Thank you spy, but was trying to be serious for once., Yes, your alternative would work. Brings to mind, why bomb the HQ and stop all the confusion.

Nutloose (your #66),

ATC - a clenched fist holding a Chinagraph.

langleybaston 1st May 2016 13:32

Met Office?

Two hands holding crystal balls?

Or the economy version, one hand holding a pine cone?

Or one finger pointing to a sucker's gap.

Whilst that might pass muster with the Inspector of Badges and HMQ, I was more minded to something more representative of Flying Prevention.

Might I propose a "No Entry" sign, wings volant and elevated of course? Motto "Volante hic" *

* At least, that's what Google Translate tell me, although I'm not convinced! :)

MPN11 1st May 2016 14:25

@ PN ... your post #72 led me to a interesting discovery of a Military outfit that would appear to offer me money in return for my assortment of [mint] cloth badges that just sit in a drawer.

I seem to have 14 or so of merchantable quality - maybe £50-worth :D
