Deskex76.
Sadly, in my experience, you would appear to be in the minority amongst your brethren. But let's not go there. BV |
Nothing's changed there then BV.

Ummm ... is this "Badge" what one would normally call a Unit Shield or similar term?

The purpose of the RAF is to fly and to fight; The purpose of those who do not fly or fight is to assist those who do. The better kind of supporters understood this and worked at it, sadly many did not

Deskex76,
Don't worry about the cost. By the time a committee have sorted this out, the RAF will only be of the size that requires half a dozen, and that will include a couple of spares. |
How about writing on their rank badges like TCW and TSW? They could have BLUNT on theirs? :E

The purpose of the RAF is to fly and to fight; The purpose of those who do not fly or fight is to assist those who do. So, basically, the RAF consists of the 'winged master race'. Other wearers of the light blue are just 'assistants'. Hmm |
This may well degenerate into another "Caption Competition" - only funnier.
To get the ball rolling, how about Wingless Wonder ? (to go with a Badge of a quill, a blindfold and a Dodo) D. |
A brass badge worn on the left cuff saying QWERTY
|
To save expending much needed budget resources, they will be required to make their own badges in their own time!

Just leave it blank, like the template.

So, basically, the RAF consists of the 'winged master race'. Other wearers of the light blue are just 'assistants'. Despite my suggested 'BLUNT' badge, I do think a badge of trade/branch is a good idea. Being able to walk into a room and at a glance have a reasonable idea of someone's specialisation is a good thing. That's why the WSO/WSOp flying badge was such a daft idea...:yuk: Originally, it was planned to have a badge to distinguish between a Nav and a Fast Jet Weapons System Operator - it went wrong when non-FJ types started to get involved. Personnally, I would have revived the RO (RADAR Observer) brevet for the FJ types. http://www.rafweb.org/Uniform_Images/radio_obs.jpg Anyway, I believe there should be a distinguishing insignia for all branches/trades... Typical of official announcements; only released 26 days late for an April Fool's Day joke. Perhaps a circular orange badge: in the RAAF they're known as JAFAs - Just Another F...ing Adminer.

The RCAF have a badge for everyone:

Spot on, Leon. You hit the operative word, TEAM.

Save money by adopting an anchor... Huge inanimate weight that impedes progress. We could always differentiate it by putting a "W" in front of it...
|
With the current aircrew retention issue it may be worth issuing them a Future Pilot sticker rather than waste time designing a new badge!
|
I think the question should be...do Scribblies want to be easily identifiable out of their office (of which they're seldom 'in').

Deskex - well said, more pointedly, to oil wheels, not put grit in them
