RNZAF VULCAN
Can anybody confirm that the RNZAF operated a Vulcan during the late 60s / early 70s?

It was a spoof.
When Ron Dick, OC I X took one to Ohakea the roundels were zapped with Kiwis. A photo is in one of my Vulcan books. |
Is NZ large enough to land one?
|
Would they actually need a whole one?

This piccie is hosted on the Vulcan to the Sky website:

'twould be intriguing to surmise why NZ might want a strategic bombing capability.
Perhaps to lay down some culture on Sidney or Melbourne - menacing toungues-out gurning through the windows while stomping in unison and yelling hoo hoo hoo? I'll get my coat... |

If it's on the internet it must be true not a spoof! The picture above clearly shows 75 Squadron operating in the Midle East. :D;):D Wageslave 'twould be intriguing to surmise why NZ might want a strategic bombing capability When this policy was overuled Frogey frogmen carried out a premptive sinking:O:O Ake ake kia kaha..........."For ever and ever be strong" |
Seems the well loved 558 was damaged on a trip to NZ in 1959 ? A broken MLG could have left it in the ground for plenty of time for the Kiwi's to zap it big time. The serial on the NLG door indicates XH552 though, so might have been part of a later detachment.
Smudge :ok: |

It was XH562 and we were in NZ Feb/Mar 72 for thw Royal New Zealand Aero Club Pageant in Hamilton. We were based at Ohakea and hosted by 75 Sqn. The dastardly deed was done the day after we arrived when they took us all away on a "VIP" VISIT. The Boss flew the ac all around NZ proudly displaying its new liverey. OC Akrotiri had a sense of humour failure on the ac's return and it was immedialely towed into a hangar!!

And here's a photo of it doing a touch-and-go at Hamilton Airport in 1972. I don't know the exact date.

It would have either been 3rd March, Practice Display, or Sunday 5th March for the Display proper. The Pageant should have taken place on Sat 6th but was cancelled for very bad weather.:ok: |
Would the cost of 30 Wellingtons at 1938 price invested at compound interest for 34 years been enough to purchase XH562?
