To TTH and A and C both.

TTH: Cadet Edward Wilson, killed in an explosion in Belfast 1919 Sqn is recorded with a short summary of the booby trap incident. He is also recorded as death No: 1298 in a book called "Lost Lives", which records all those killed in the 'troubles'.

As to A and C's query re a CI with nearly 40 years service, my initial and very unkind/snide comment would be: 'Get some In'. However, to answer the question, there are long service awards for 12, 24 years etc. There are a range of commendations also available and the person to whom you refer is also eligible to be considered for a state award - probably a BEM or MBE. If he has achieved something a specialist area - say DofE - he might receive an award from there.

In addition, there is nothing to prevent the unit within which he serves from making some private gesture - say a piece of silverware or an engraved tankard - and presented at the Wing dinner.

It really usually just needs somebody to get off their a?><e and sort it out.
