Grumman C-2A Greyhound aircrew

Any current or ex- C-2A Greyhound aircrew about on this forum? Looking for information on the type in USN service

GreenKnight121 15th Mar 2014 00:21

All I know is a former USN E-2 Hawkeye* pilot.

He posts on the Warships1 forum. His board name is Nightwatch2.

E-2

Thanks Greenknight,

It is the COD version the C-2 I am interested in.

Norma Stitz 15th Mar 2014 11:18

I've flown in one, if that helps...

C-2A

Thanks Norma, were you a passenger or crew?

Norma Stitz 18th Mar 2014 18:10

PAX, to and from a carrier

Hangarshuffle 18th Mar 2014 21:03

Too old.

Greyhound aircrew are so old mate they don't even know of the internet, let alone use it.

C-2

Thanks Norma. It is a post WW2 type Hangarshuffle so there might be a few around still!

If you Google 'VAW VRC Foundation', you should come up with a few pages (including Facebook) where you should be able to summon some crew up, or draw a pentagram on the floor...:)

Not much of a lead but Miramar air station in CA still use them for training...

...looking at google earth, they appear to based at North Island air station and use Miramar for circuits.

GreenKnight121 22nd Mar 2014 02:22

And the USN still operates well over two dozen of them, including flying them WITH PAYLOADS on and off of aircraft carriers, in such "training areas" as the Indian Ocean, etc.

Pentagrams

Thanks Norma, black magic may be required!

C-2A

Thanks Jimmy.

Norma Stitz 6th Apr 2014 12:16

C-2As are not based at Miramar...some circuits maybe, but not based. VRC-30 are based at North Island, and VRC-40 at Norfolk, VA. Type command rests with CACCLW at Point Mugu, CA (only because the E-2 community is more numerous, and therefore took type lead on C-2A): CACCLW Home

Looks like a replacement is possible.

Too bad the S-3 can't land on LHD's which will be operating F-35's which will need engines. The V-22 has demonstrated the ability to carry the engine and land on an LHD. Non-starter.

Yeah, via an external load. That limits the usefulness of the Osprey in this role. No real operational diff than what exists with the harrier currently. The Navy is addressing adjusting its tail to account for this.

Mil-26Man 11th Apr 2014 09:26

That concept has been aound for a while now...

Greyhound aircrew

With 50 years of service there must be some of you out there? Still looking for pilots who can help with my research. As usual thread drift has happened (like lots of other threads) and anyone reading this one will have trouble recalling the original reason for the post. I hope to make contact with C-2A Greyhound pilots and aircrewmen to assist me in my research. I know you are hiding somewhere!

Norma Stitz 8th Jun 2014 02:36

Tom - once again I suggest you go to this site: VAW VRC Ready Room | On the USS Midway in San Diego
