In 2001 we had a comparatively good developing Amphibious capability. Ocean, Bulwark and Albion inbound plus the excellent 4 X Bay Class all inbound (eventually).
Mind you it did cross my mind what a little Britain still wants toys like these for. Small wars against Pygmies armed with straw.
Anyway, 13 years later militarily we are in a fine state and that group mentioned has done its bit and effectively been downsized quite a lot.
Now its Russia's turn.

well amphib multi-capacity is far more likely to be used in the next 40 year than WW Bang class carriers TBH

Sister's view was that was a possibility whilst underway or facing a headwind (helos not needing the 'wind over the deck' that fixed wing aircraft do), although wouldn't be much use in a crosswind. She also postulated that it was to allow a free field of fire from the forward armament.
