Furthermore he projects a far more positive image of the Monarchy, than his free
loading uncle Andy does at the moment.

Tony Abbott, the Australian Prime Minister, was warned to "lock up his daughters" as Harry arrived in Sydney.

Yes, I just noticed in the UK media, one article re Andrew,
one very positive article re Prince Harry.

West Coast 5th Oct 2013 20:57

Harry: porn for poms. Just another guy doing his job. Focus in on the real patriots, the guys doing their jobs quietly.

Toadstool 5th Oct 2013 21:08

I believe that the first time he went to Afghanistan as an infantry platoon commander he did do his job quietly, until he was outed by the press.

Gerontocrat 5th Oct 2013 22:12

"Yup, tradition or no tradition, he stills looks ridiculous in a beret and a dress uniform! I agree with Clott on that one.

Berets are for French onion sellers and Frank Spencer!

iRaven "

Try telling that to the "Men in Black" (RTR), Paras and THEM.

Gerontocrat 5th Oct 2013 22:18

Bud, the beret serves as the uniform head-dress of the AAC. Harry is a subaltern in the Household Cavalry Regiment attached to the AAC and therefore wears the dress trousers and tropical jacket of his parent Regiment with the AAC beret.

'Tradition', I believe it's called
.

"... dress trousers and tropical jacket of his parent Regiment with the AAC beret."

And to complete the list, add Cap badge of HCR.

Any truth to the rumour that they went back to Kirribilli House for a game of pool afterwards?

West Coast 5th Oct 2013 22:26

Now if the girls book a trip to Vegas, the PM should be a tad worried. Harry saves his best work for sin city.

Have they finished the renovations there? Isn't that why Tony was bunking with the AFP Cadets?

BBadanov 5th Oct 2013 23:43

No, you have confused the homes. The Lodge in Canberra is undergoing renovation, hence bunking with AFP in the quarters, which solves security concerns.

Kirribilli House is the PM's Sydney residence, next door to Admiralty House, the GG's Sydney residence.

500N 5th Oct 2013 23:56

"Kirribilli House is the PM's Sydney residence, next door to Admiralty House, the GG's Sydney residence."

Lucky Prince Harry didn't stay at the GG's residence, Abbott would have
needed a Regiment to protect his daughters from a midnight visit across
the walls :O

Don_Apron 6th Oct 2013 00:05

When 'arry arrived on ship, he gave a salute that would have bought tears of joy, to a drill sergeant. He must have been practicing that for months!!

500N 6th Oct 2013 00:07

Don

Yes, I noticed as well. Pretty snappy.

I have yet to see a piece of bad press about his visit.
I think everyone appreciated the walkabout and he
is so down to earth with his interactions with people.

Is fifty six years long enough for wearing a Blue Tac beret to be classed as a 'tradition'? What is it some fish heads and pongos say about the Royal Air Force not being around long enough to have formed traditions, rather having 'bad habits' instead?

Buster Hyman 6th Oct 2013 01:08

Oh right, my bad.

parabellum 6th Oct 2013 01:18

If, as reported, Harry checks in at 6'2" then Abbotts daughters are fairly lofty maidens!

West Coast - You are being a little harsh. Harry has done two tours in Afghanistan, both with no more publicity during the tour than anyone else and not a whole lot more after the tour.

Regarding the Beret, the only head dress, other than when in action, in all it's forms, for The Royal Tank Regiment, The Parachute Regiment, The SAS Regiment and the Army Air Corps, can't think of any others right now.

500N 6th Oct 2013 01:25

Parabellum

Don't forget the Royal Marines :O

Re the publicity, I doubt Harry asks for any of it and I am sure
the MoD wants some of it so it is a fine balance.

This was his second tour representing the Queen and both tours
seem to have gone off well.

Abbott's daughters are tall, Tony Abbott is the shortest in the family :O

Berets only for Booties? There are still occasions when they wear a 'Pith Pot'.

parabellum 6th Oct 2013 06:38

I deliberately left them out for two reasons 500N,

1. I grouped them with the RN, not Army and

2. Wasn't sure about their best blues head dress, don't think they wear the green beret with blues do they? I thought a white topped peaked cap with a red band around it? Am I right in thinking that, with the exception of the band, all Marines are commandos these days?
