Hands off CJR; he gave up being English and became a Rhodesian!
I am not sure - I don't think Rhodesian existed as a nationality until some time after WWII.

Oh, Lord. There's always one, isn't there? Since when did we care?
Er, that was precisely my point. So much of what people 'celebrate' as being English today has no historical basis in fact as ever having been English. Hence, what does it matter if Cameron doesn't have an 'English' surname?

Ps; celebrate is in single quotes because I'm Welsh - couldn't help myself ;-)

Courtney Mil 23rd Apr 2013 12:55

Oh, I see. Sorry. I would imagine Cameron is of Scottish origin, isn't it? But then my name comes from French pirates, but it doesn't stop me wearing an English Rose today.

Thanks BEagle ... If only :ok:

The Heading is almost spot on to nip round the Gatwick Zone old chap :D

I don't normally drink during the week, but I feel that on such a lovely spring St George's Day I may have to crack a bottle of Spitfire or pop to my local for a pint of London Pride this evening.:ok:

BEagle 23rd Apr 2013 14:21

I don't normally drink during the week...
HUH? I thought it was de rigueur for you Whitehall Warriors? Or is it all jogging round the park and sipping mineral water these days...:yuk: ??

I trust you started your day with a 'Full English', Roly?

I thought I was bingo Brit beer, with only Bitburger Pils or Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier from which to choose...:\ But then I remembered that there are a couple of bottles of Old Specky Hen lurking somewhere - so I won't need to be tempted by losers' beer today!

An English Rose? Now of whom does that remind me.....;)

Who is that - and what is he holding?

1.3VStall 23rd Apr 2013 15:18

He's holding the last vestige of English pride!:)

melmothtw 23rd Apr 2013 15:22

Very good Dak Man (but perhaps you could re-edit for spelling...)

what is he holding?
It's the 6 Nations rugby trophy BEagle. No shame in you not knowing though, as being English you probably no longer recognise it as it's been that long since you last won it....

Party Animal 23rd Apr 2013 15:54

BEagle,

Post 30 is George North who knows which is the better side of the Anglo Welsh border to live as he has just signed for Northampton Saints RFC.

glad rag 23rd Apr 2013 18:39

Well it's been nice to see the flags flying on the TV.

As a Scottish patriot and British citizen ;) I wish you all the very best on St Georges day.

Canadian Break 23rd Apr 2013 18:40

My England!

My legacy to you includes a love of quiet places in this England of ours
Where the many burdens of life can be put down,
Where cares shall fall away and the will to persevere shall come upon you.
I give you the power to remember the joys you have known
and the healing grace to forgive.

I endow you with a sense of calm that you may look upon the troubles of this world, yet not be discomforted.
I give you a heart that does not quail at danger, and a courage that will not flinch, whatever the task that lies ahead.
For your belief in the everlasting spirit of England is a faith well founded my son.

Dak Man 23rd Apr 2013 18:40

Must be great for the Welsh Rugy Union to have more and more of their stars being payed by English clubs.

cuefaye 23rd Apr 2013 18:52

The Irish must be having a laugh at you lot.

BEagle 23rd Apr 2013 19:00

Would this help, BEags?
Not really, me old. I prefer ladies who are rather more soft and fluffy.
